In line 4-5 it say's for my unconquerable soul in the feel clutch of circumstance

I think it's corrupting because he is talking about his self and how dark it is outside including how he was going to pole to pole . 

What qualities did the main character have that helped or hindered them ?
I feel like invictus means undefeated

Her dad because he was never in her life as she grew up and it made her grown up with the wrong people
