Matthew Flinders always felt a connection with the sea and loved navigation. The reason Matthew along with his friend George Bass navigated Australia's coast was so they could bring back resources and new technology, along with a map so others could colonize and find there way. Flinders first sailed with the Navy and soon after he got his own boat to start his explorations.

GOLD- He would've gotten lots of money for his explorations being published and mapped, but he passed away before they were finished.
POSITIVE/NEGATIVE- He never did anything negative to get money, but it's negative that he passed away before getting his earnings.
COMPARE/CONTRAST-
Matthew flinders relates to Christopher columbus in the way that they both sailed the sea looking for land. They both did it to be the first to bring back information, altho they explored different areas. Columbus sailed straight across the atlantic while Flinders stayed at the coast of Australia. Christopher gained great fortune from his navigations and he also gained many new resources from trade. Flinders also gained new resources, but he died after he came back so didn't get much money from his maps and books.

GLORY- He sailed the whole Australian coast to be the first one to map it and explore. He got most the credit along with his friend George Bass. To this day He is known for being the first to to put Australia on the map.
POSITIVE/NEGATIVE- I would say his explorations are positive. Because of his discoveries we now know our way around Australia and the coast, and we also know what to look for. He discovered most of Australia as a continent as well as confirming Tasmania as an island. He was also successful in the way that he found more natural resources and gave information people could use to build/colonize in different areas in Australia. So Matthew Flinders not only mapped Australia but he also gave the continent more economic value.
COMPARE/CONTRAST-
Both Christopher columbus and Matthew flinders explored to be the first to bring back information and resources from there land. they both gained great respect from there explorations, but some people have believed Columbus found his discoveries in a bad way and that he did not succeed.

GOD- I never found anything on god, but he said he was "induced to go to sea against the wishes of my friends from reading Robinson Crusoe," so that shows his connections.
POSITIVE/NEGATIVE- I would say it was positive. Because he was so attached to exploring and the sea he made many discoveries that we use today. He explored many bays and ports that are mainly used today.
COMPARE/CONTRAST-
While columbus sailed he and others tried to change natives to be christian because that's what they thought was right. Matthew never said if he did it for god, but he did it for the people to get new information. Columbus said he "brought the christian religion to half the world". His discoveries were basically to prove peoples theory that God created the world in seven parts, six of them dry land and the seventh water.

Matthew Flinders was the first person to navigate the coast of Australia and map it out. He also got his research published. He named many of the places he found including Kangaroo Island, Cape catastrophe, and memory cove. On his exhibition he first found and named Fowlers Bay and from there on he kept charting everything they discovered. They made many stops so naturalists could collect soils, and produce. They at one point had entered a large inlet leading north that they though may go up to the Gulf of Carpentaria, but it didn't. They then discovered kangaroo island and gulf st. Vincent. The saw the corvette Le Géographe and ended up calling it encounter bay as a meeting spot. That was his eastern limit and they stopped in port Jackson. After completing charts and surveys from what they had found, they traveled towards Gulf of Carpentaria again. They then explored the west coast.

After his discoveries our nation gained more knowledge of direction and were able to explore and find new areas to live. We were also able to map all the discoveries for travel and transportation reasons.

His discoveries helped in sciences, because without his help it may have taken way longer to find out what's there. He also helped with technology by mapping it out as he went along, so people could know where they are going and that might have helped form some of our navigational systems we use today. As for earth Flinders discoveries gave us information about unknown/uncharted territories that we now have on the globe.

Matthew Flinders did not explore or claim land for kingdom, but he explored for the people in Australia and all people who later colonized there. He explored the coast of Australia so we could know what was there and we could navigate it. He put Australia on the map.

Flinders discoveries led to knowing more about Australia as a continent, and did help with a little colonization because people moved to those parts of Australia discovered. Matthew Flinders put Australia on the map, so many were able to colonize there and make a life. Also on new lands there was new resources that led to money, trade and economic advantages.

Countries colonize for land and resources. They may move for economic advantages or opportunities, but many don’t want to somewhere that may suffer economically or they have already built a life somewhere and don't want to go through the difficulties of moving and starting again.

People may not move if they feel threatened or feel like they will lesson in power and money, but they might move if where you are currently in struggling economically. Many don't have the money to move and colonize somewhere.

Historically when countries colonize into native land, the native americans are enslaved or possibly hurt, because they try to stand for there land. In other cases others try to change the natives to there ways and take advantage of them. Also some of the times when there was colonization it wasn't violent, but more of an exchange of goods and resources.
