Our scene starts on page 30-33

Narrator- Last night it rained and mad the grass all muddy. Jody slept in the barn to watch over the horse. It got very windy and the barn doors flew open. The horse Gabllian  weekly ran into the field. Jody woke up, grabbed a lantern and ran after his horse. 

Narrator- Jody finally catches up with the horse and leads it back to the stall for the rest of the night. In the morning Billy walks into the barn.  

   

Billy Buck-  I’ve gotta do something that you don’t want to see, go run up to the house and stay there for a while

Narrator- Jody suddenly got a rush of worry and he didn’t know why

 Jody-  (fiercely)You’re not going to shoot him are you 

             (Billy patted his head)

Billy Buck- No. I’m going to open a little hole in his windpipe so he can breathe. His nose is filled up. When he gets better, we’ll put a brass button in the hole for him to breathe through.”

Narrator- Jody was very disturbed the sight but he was there anyways. He got a feeling of relief that Billy Buck was not going to shoot his horse Gablian. 

Billy Buck- If you stay, you can at least hold his head. If that doesn't make you sick, that is.

Narrator-Jody slowly walked toward the horse and picked up the head. He was nervous and turned his head away. 

Billy Buck- Are you ready? I am about to cut the horse. And one more thing, make sure that the horse does not jump and run away, or I will end up hurting him even more. 

Narrator- Billy Buck picks up his knife and makes a small incision The gets startled and jumps a few inches in the air. He starts to bleed out a little bit. 

 

Narrator-They brought Gabbilain into the barn because it was starting to rain. They didn't want him to get even more sick. 

Billy buck- Jody, make sure that Gablian eats. While we wait, we got to keep this hole from clogging up.     ( Grabbing a cotton swab and starting to clean off the wound. )

Narrator- After the “ surgery” is done jody walks back to the house, after the breakfast bell rings. He made sure that he jumped through all the puddles in the grey and mucky morning. When jody reached the house his mother fed him his breakfast and got him into dry clothes. 

Jody’s mom- Give him this ( sounding hopeful ) 

Jody- No, he won’t eat anything. 

Narrator- Jody’s mom could tell that he was worried and angry so she left him alone. When jody got back to the barn, Billy Buck showed him how to fix a cotton ball on a stick and how to clean the wound.  Jody’s father than walked into the barn. 

Jody’s father- Hadn’t you better come with me? I’m going to drive over the hill to the town. 

Father- You better come on out of this.

Narrator- Billy turned angrily on him.

Billy Buck- Leave him alone. It’s his pony isn't it?

Narrator- Carl tiflin walked away without saying another word. He felt offended by Jody's answer. His feelings were badly hurt.
