The New Woman of the 1920s, or the flapper, wore
dresses with shorter hemlines, put on more makeup,
danced to the latest crazes, and generally assumed that
she had the same political and social rights as any man.

When women gained the right vote, they switched form victorian traditional dresses to a whole new free spirited flapper girl. With short dresses, and short hair. This new trend was not well accepted by older adults seeing that is was disgraceful and close to prostitution. Yet women still moved on having a free life of crazy adventure. This article shows a woman going against the how a traditional woman should act, the title includes "assert" rather than something negative, implying that whoever wrote this deems this event as important when usually women are not included in the news for going against tradition.

With more free time and disposable income, urban and suburban Americans looked to new sources of entertainment. Motion pictures helped supply that demand.
During the 1920's movies and film became an instant success because they appealed to the person's emotions. For example many movies during this time were about "real" problems and lives of Americans. Since people during this time had time & money to spend, motion pictures were a hit.
