He was very clever and was famous among the people of Ireland as a wise man. He lived on the banks of the Boyne and spent his days writing books and poetry. He heard mention of the salmon of knowledge and although he was very clever it was his desire to be the wisest man in the world.

Suddenly the salmon jumped into the air, gave Finnéigis a fright and looked him in the eyes. He fell asleep instantly. Night was falling when Finnéigis woke up. He realised that he had only one other chance to catch the fish. He was lucky this time and caught the salmon.

Finnéigeas knew that he should not look into the eye of the fish because it had magical powers and anyone who looked in its eyes would fall into a sound sleep.

He warned Fionn not to taste the salmon agus Fionn promised that he would not do so. Fionn put the fish on the fire but he noticed a small bit of the fish skin rising. Fionn tried to break the bubble by pressing on it with his thumb but the bubble burst and burned Fionn's thumb. Fionn tried to cool his thumb but it left a mark on his thumb. When Finneigeas returned  returned he noticed something different about Fionn. There was a light in his eyes that wasn't their before.He asked about the salmon.
