A movement to secure legal, economic, and social equality for women, also called the feminist movement.

It is in the nineteenth-century women's movement, which sought, among other things, to secure property rights and suffrage for women. In 1848, a group of abolitionist activists containing mostly women, and some men, gathered in Seneca Falls, New York to discuss the problem of women's rights. They were invited there by the reformers Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott.
