In it, he reveals a new technique called ligatures in an attempt to replace cauterising iron for open wounds and injuries, calling it "too old and cruel". As stated in his book, to perform ligatures, he needed a needle and silk, and using those, he would sew an open wound shut. According to him, it took him about a month to figure this innovation out.
