Militarism is the policy of glorifying military power and military ideas and values. The reason this policy was created was because as the tensions grew, the European leaders thought that this policy would help provide safety. As an example, when Germany improved its navy to challenge Great Britain, Great Britain created more battleships which led for Germany's army to grow. That caused France to improve its own army. The arms race made the European countries build up their military. This rivalry between Britain and Germany worsened the relation as countries. The rivalry between the powers caused the increase of weapons. Documents E and G represent this idea. Document E shows how much each military of different countries had to spend. The more the militaries had weapons needed to buy, the more they spent. Document G shows how each countries' armies began to grow. Germany had the largest standing army and it had the strongest desire to beat other countries. Document D shows that many countries wanted to make their military as strong as it could be. The symbol of the Sun shows how strong they wanted their military to be.

Nations in Europe also looked for safety through alliances. The alliances were expected to spread peace because some countries would protect others in war. However, the negative impact was the fear of arguments happening between two countries and that will cause all other allied nations to fight. From the documents, Document K is an example of alliances because it shows the triple alliances and the Balkans and how they were connected together. Some countries such as Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary and some countries in these alliances were allied with other countries and that caused a chain. Document L also is an example of alliances because it shows several countries connected and they depend on each other. They also threaten whoever wants to harm the,

Imperialism was thought to build up the nation's wealthy and to have an influence by owning other countries. For example, France and Britain owned several colonies in Asia and Africa which influenced other countries like Germany and Italy to want to build a colonial empire. Documents B and H have an example of imperialism. Document B is because it has a map of colonial possessions and it shows how the whole purpose of imperialism was to own several colonies and it shows how each country owns another. Document H also shows imperialism because it describes which countries own which parts and the ethnic groups of Austria-Hungary in 1910.

Nationalism is the desire for ethnic identity and the desire for independence coming from rule by foreign countries. the reason it was created was because many European countries competed for colonies, trade, and territory. With nationalism, larger countries take over smaller countries. For example, a smaller country like Serbia wanted independence from the larger country like Austria-Hungary. Document C represents nationalism because it shows the desire of people and how they wanted to gain territories worldwide and to gain its resources and put many countries in conflict with others who wanted independence. In Document A, it was said that "Individual peoples wanted to determine their future." This shows how countries based their goals on colonizing other countries regarding of their language religion, or culture.
