Meeting students where they are! Differentiation at its best!

ZPD is the space between what a learner can do on their own and what they can do with help from a teacher, peer, or guide. It’s the “sweet spot” for learning—where tasks are challenging enough to promote growth but not so hard that the learner cannot succeed with support.

Mediation of experience through artifacts 2. Activity as the center of analysis 3. Cultural organization of human life that surrounds the mediation and activity 4. The essential role of social interaction and 5. the historical context of the experience. In the photograph 1. a multilingual learner interacts with an artifact: a children's picture book, markers, and tape. 2. She begins reading and making meaning from the book. 3. Through her cultural experiences, she does not connect with the book or make meaning from it. 4. with a more knowledgeable other encouraging her, she begins changing the book to reflect herself and her life experiences. 5. creating a new book based on prior experiences with books in relationship with her life experiences.
