I portrayed this story to be of a woman who is mourning the loss of her husband.The way that Mrs. Mallard is acting, you would think that she loved him so much that she wouldnt be able to live without him. However she realizes she has lived her life for him and starts to see herself living a happier life with him gone. It was a huge surprise in the ending of him not being dead. Her dying of his suprising return makes me feel like she had no other choice. They protect her by keeping it to themselves.
