As I discovered and pondered example after example, overwhelming feelings of gratitude and awe surfaced. Our neighbors also asked Susannah to feed their fish this week while they're on vacation, and they've never asked us to do anything like that before. And then my favorite advice columnist, Carolyn Hax, did a short segment for the Unsung Heroes podcast, in which she told a story about how one person she didn't know well made a huge difference in her life just by checking in with her during a really rough time in her life.
