Makayla

Weather Tracking: The weather corresponds with Gatsby's emotions in a few different instances. When he is anxious or has a pessimistic attitude towards his meeting with Daisy it tends to rain or thunder. When the sun comes out it shows that Gatsby is feeling happy or hopeful. The wind represents conflicting emotions. It was windy when Gatsby was finally with Daisy but he was still not quite happy after mentioning Dan Cody which resulted in strong contrast between the joy of being with Daisy and the grief of remembrance.

Gatz to Gatzby: I think Gatzby changed his identity for a fresh start in the world. In the society of 1920 the rich are really rich and the poor are really poor Gatzby was born poor so he was able to get a new identity and have a fresh start with a new chance. He was given a opportunity and he took advantage of it that lead to making a lot of money and getting connections to people with a lot of money. Making him who he is today.

It shows what a somber moment it is and how he has waited for this moment his whole life. It shows how emotional he was and the joy and nerves he has when seeing her again. The weather is not only showing his emotions but hers. She is basically crying happy tears when she sees him.

Mileya H

Weather tracking: The weather shows the emotions of Gatsby by constantly changing when his mood changes. One way we see this is when it rains, the rain can either be very harsh or lightly sprinkling. The weather always changes when Gatsby is feeling things like embarassment, regret or sorrow. Then, when Gatsby and Daisy begin to bond and reflect on their old times it can be seen as sunny, or colorful. In conclusion when Gatsby is feeling down the weather is very dark but when he is happy the wether is more colorful.

The weather shows the symbolism of Gatsbys persona throughout the chapter. When there is themes of stillness despair and melancholia, the weather shifts to a more "its pouring outside"/resonance of thunder/rain type of theme, and when theres instances of deeper connection as well as inner joy it tends to get sunnier. Sometimes the rain in this case didn't also show themes of dispair, rather, it showed a more sombrous moment as well. ~ Sam

For example, at the beginning of Daisy's and Gatsby's reunion, the rain was pouring, signifying the anxiety and nerves both of them felt.

Gatz to Gatsby:

I believe Gatsby changed his identity because of Daisy. Everything he did in a way was rooted by for Daisy and his character revolves around his unwavering love for her. And to achieve this goal, he had to change both himself and his own status, as to get with Daisy it was necessary for him to have an appeal in a society where the wealthy prosper. He needed a fresh start, a chance to be someone that the 1920’s society would approve of, and becoming that he could also become someone acceptable for Daisy.

-Amy

The weather demonstrates all the emotions that Gatsby is feeling through different forms of weather. In the book, when it was pouring rain outside, that represented how Gatsby was feeling nervous about seeing Daisy again. When the sun came out after the rain, that was a moment where Gatsby’s nervousness turned into happiness and he felt a sense of hope that everything was going to be good.
