People, events and causes:
During this time period Yanek and his family had gone through many tough events that brought down Yanek's motivation to keep fighting through this ruff time also his mom and dad lost most of their drive to survive. Eventually Yanek turned 13 and played a bigger role of maturity during these events which had another major impact on his family because he was a big help for food and other resources to survive plus most importantly Yanek was very supportive for his mom when the tragic events happened such as the house raids when the Nazi's took everything Yanek's family had and those type of events especially the house raids and seeing people die in front of her face. Some smaller problems that happened during this time period were the camps that Jews were taken to, including Yanek's family because they were also Jews and that explains why Yanek's family had to survive so they did not get caught and taken to work camps. Another smaller problem was Yanek and his family had to constantly move to different places including because of a couple reasons, one reason was the family's that were over crowding Yanek's family's flat which is basically like an apartment. The only reason why other family's and people were overcrowding these flats was because they were all people trying to survive from being shot or took to work for the Nazi's. Eventually Yanek's family moved away from their flat with all of the family's once they found a pigeon coop on the roof protected by metal bars which would keep Yanek and his family safe so they thought that was the best option for the family. The family broke apart slowly because of arguing and the big conflicts between war with Germany. The big problem occurred for Yanek when he went out for food and came back to his parents being took to the work camps and this changed Yanek mentally and physically because he lost hope and didn't believe in surviving anymore. A bigger problem that occurred for the duration of this war was that the Nazi's were trying to take every Jew to resettlement camps and take them from their family's for just the fun of it. Another big problem was the fact Nazi's were shooting and taking old sick people out of hospitals for a threat toward all of the other Jews that were hiding and also the Nazi's made old sick people work at the camps. Lastly Nazi's killed anyone who did not surrender to work for them and they even killed children just because other people didn't want to surrender.

Impact on Main Character:

There were many impacts on Yanek including the biggest one which was the loss of his parents plus that was really the big deal of the book because that event is what really changed Yanek for the rest of the book and honestly I would be lost without a family to. Also Yanek has had many other major changes and especially the way he acts different after he gets sent away to the workcamp and the way he acted different was at first when Yanek found his uncle his Uncle said," Be unknown don't talk to nobody and don't tell anybody information about you and try not to stand out." Yanek's uncle was the last person that was really there for him and the last one to lean on. Eventually Yanek lost his uncle and was all alone again and from my perspective I believe that Yanek was just more motivated from now he realized he is on his own and he needs to wake up and do what he has to do to survive. One thing I noticed about Yanek is that he cares a lot for the people around him and that is probably one of the biggest stand outs to me from Yanek because he is always worried about other people safety and what is going on. Another thing was I realized that Yanek had listened to his uncle at first to be unknown and to not help anyone which goes with pretty much standing out; he once woke up when he lost his uncle and thought that he needed to survive and keep going, most important to not give up on his country. Lastly I am going to be honest from my perspective that Yanek was a strong person throughout the entire book in which he had his down times and is good times even though there was many more bad times. Yanek showed that he was a strong person by revealing that he did not give up no matter what and took all the bad times and used them as motivation and even when he witnessed horrible events that affected his country, he kept going and that is what I like to see in a character in a book; I think that Yanek is the person to take in all the bad things and release them in ways that benefit other people and importantly hisself. Yanek also changed from the beginning to the end by changing the way he deals with conflict in different situations which this has to do with his reactions and responses. Like said before Yanek showed bravery eventually after the fact he turned 13. Lastly Yanek changed from being scared to truly turning into a young man by the way he expresses himself throughout the book and I can't even explain how amazed I am by his overcomes and challenges he dealt with also.

Conflicts during this time period:

Some main conflicts that affected the society of many other countries during WWII were the Established concentration camps in which these camps were not the only type of camps where Jews were stored, there were also resettlement camps and workcamps that the Germans made Jew go because they wanted slaves and especially because the German soldiers "Nazi's" didn't really care at all for the Jews because they were against what the Jews believed in. Another conflict that affected many people were the six death camps that were made for exactly what they sound like and there was conflict involved with these camps because of the Jews were fighting against the fact German Nazi's wanted to kill Jews for fun and for no reason at all. A third conflict was the laws that were stripped away from Jews and any other people that were not on the German side; these laws were the right of citizenship and Jews couldn't even be regular people anymore because if they tried they would be either sent away to one of the camps and more likely to be slaves at a work camp or they would be killed, it is really between being killed or making the Jews work. Some conflicts in my book were the same events that were running around which was the camps that Nazi's were taking all of the polish Jews to and the polish Jews were mostly being forced to work at the work camps and most of them died that is why I said it is really between being killed or being forced to work and if the Jews refused to work they would be killed which is so wrong. Also polish Jews lost their rights such as any other Jew in any other country that Germany had in control. Polish Jews were robbed of their citizenship which means they also could not be normal humans. The last conflict that is related to my book was the horrible trials the Jews had to face which was unfair these trials gave Jews and not only Jews were gave these trials but also anyone that were against Germany.

Character Response and Affect:

Yanek's response to the war was pretty complicated because before the war Yanek was just a normal kid and didn't expect what was to come at first but then Yanek eventually realized what was going on after the invasion in poland. Yanek and his family were devastated by this craziness and also were confused especially Yanek because he never understood why the Nazi's were doing this to his country and trying to take his home from him. Honestly Yanek started to understand that his home was slowly being detached from him, even though he couldn't accept the fact that his country was in the process of being conquered he still tried to make the situation clear and also played a big part in bravery that he showed throughout the story. Yanek actually cared about his people more than himself and that was where the bravery came in. I believe the biggest impact on Yanek was when his parents died and even though he was brave this impact on Yanek caused many changes in his way of showing himself and who he truly is. Plus not only losing his parents impacted his character but also Yanek had many down times when he had no motivation to survive and he had many motivated moments when he used his loss of his family to keep pushing and to have drive to survive again and again. Lastly I want to say that Yanek is the person to take any problem/conflict and keep going even when he might need some time to recover but he finds his way to keep going and find his way back to normal.
