I believe loosing your morals to the point where you don't even act like yourself anymore isn't acceptable. A few character slip ups is much different than becoming a whole new person. Gatsby is a perfect example of someone who lost their morals and it was shown throughout the book as he fought to win Daisy over. That was his one main dream and he lost himself chasing it. Many people said ".. he paid a high price for living so long with a single dream." (Fitzgerald 172). Throwing all those extravagant parties showed how Gatsby went out of character doing things to get Daisy's attention with money he got illegally. Another great example is Walter from 'A raisin in he Sun,' trying so hard to get to his dream of owning his own liquor store that his lost his morals of the importance of family.

We only have a responsibility to people around us when we believe it is morally just to do so, for example Mama is responsible for her family, but she is not responsible for choosing her family's decisions. Mama also made the decision to give money to Walter so he could fulfill his personal dream that he believed was his duty to his family because they were living a poor life. In turn mama payed the price because she was not there to make a decision because Walter was basically giving away his money because he has no experience in the field of business. I believe this is the best conclusion that can be made for this question.
