I would love to see more and more classroom teachers move to this format because it can be so powerful in helping our students take notice of and responsibility for their growth. My only suggestion would be to scale back testing data. We, as teachers, are overwhelmed by these tests and they negatively affect both teaching and learning. My concern is that making test data so important in these conferences teaches students and families that the most important of their learning is testing outcomes. That, at least to me, is more about achievement (my primary goal is to test well) versus learning (my primary goal is to understand). Again, thanks so much.
