Almost 250 volunteers supported the 2025 mission. Their work helped determine the location and scale of the crash crater and debris field and recover evidentiary material that is now undergoing analysis at the DPAA laboratory in Nebraska.

However, the investigation is not yet complete, and a much larger volunteer team is now required to help move, sieve, and wet screen a substantial volume of crater material. This is painstaking and repetitive work, but it is essential: aircraft fragments, personal effects and potential human remains may be extremely small and can only be recovered through this careful, methodical screening.

This is practical outdoor fieldwork on an active archaeological site. The work will involve standing for extended periods, bending, repetitive movements, handling soil or screening equipment, and working in wet, muddy, hot, or changeable weather. However, it represents a finite and irreplaceable opportunity to locate any surviving remains of 2nd Lt Lowry – all material that is carefully screened will contribute to the possibility of recovering, identifying and ultimately repatriating him after more than 80 years.

Volunteering slots are available Monday to Friday, 08:45–15:30. Volunteers are welcome to attend for one day or for multiple dates.

All volunteers must register individually and book a confirmed shift through the portal before attending. Unfortunately, walk-ins cannot be accommodated.
