How great is Brazil? . . . É BOA PRA CARAMBA (eh boh-ah pdah kah-dahm-bah)!

Boa by itself means good. When pra caramba comes after good, it transforms "It’s good" to "It’s amazing!"

Food Staples

Food in Daily Life. Rice, beans, and manioc form the core of the Brazilian diet and are eaten at least occasionally by all social classes in all parts of the nation. Manioc is a root crop that is typically consumed as farinha , manioc flour sprinkled over rice and beans, or farofa , manioc flour sautéed in a bit of oil with onions, eggs, olives, or other ingredients. The higher social class may add to this core meat, poultry, or fish; while the lowest social class may only eat the rice and beans. By far in modern Brazil the most social meal of the day despite the social class is lunch or perhaps for higher social class, a late afternoon multi-course lunch.

Brazil in widely known for their many favelas. A favela is Portuguese for slum. The first favela, now known as Providência in the center of Rio de Janeiro, appeared in the late 19th century, built by soldiers who had nowhere to live following the Canudos War.
From 1950 to 1980 the number of people living in favelas in Rio de Janeiro alone increased from about 170,000 to more than 600,000, and by the early 21st century it was estimated that there were as many as 1,000 favelas there. According to the 2010 census, 6 percent of Brazil's total population lived in favelas.
Since about 2010 there has been a small initiative to "clean up" the look of the favelas by using street artist to turn them into something more appealing to the eyes, similar to that done in the Philippines and in Mexico. Shown in this photo are Dutch artists Haas & Hahn participating in the Wynwood Walls Mural Project in 2014.

When visiting Brazil there is some specific shopping that needs to happen. Look out for these 4 items!
1. Footwear - Brazil is the world's third biggest producer of shoes, and is acknowledged for its top quality and low prices.
