Bees have many special features on their bodies that help them with the task of collecting nectar and pollinating plants. Some of these adaptations and bodily features include:

* Eyes: bees have 3 eyes on the front of their heads and 1 on each side. They have no pupils.

* 3-part bodies: like other insects, bees' bodies have three parts: the head, thorax, and abdomen.

* Hair: bees have thick hair covering their bodies, but not the same kind of hair that is on mammals.

* Antennae: bees have antennae, skinny, jointed feelers they use to smell, on the front of their heads.

* Mouth: bees use their long tongues to suck up nectar, pollen, and water. Their tongues have jaws on each side that hold pollen and wax.

* Wings: there are two delicate wings on each side of a bee's body. The front wings are bigger than the back ones are.

* Legs: bees have 3 legs on each side of their thorax. Each leg has 5 main joints.

* Stingers: these are on the back of a bee's body. Some are barbed and some are not, but all stingers have glands that produce poison.

Bees with different jobs have different stingers:

* Worker bees: these bees have straight stingers with barbs. The barbs keep the stingers in flesh, but they also cause the bees to lose their stingers and die.

* Queen bees: queens' stingers are curvy and they do not have barbs. Queens use their stingers to kill other queens, and they do not die as a result of stinging another bee.

* Drone bees: these bees don't have stingers at all

The stingers are different but the purpose is the same: bees use their stings to protect their hives from intruders.

Bee stings cause swelling and pain on and near the sting. If you get stung, immediately pull the stinger out, but don't squeeze it. The sooner the stinger is removed, the sooner the flow of poison into your bloodstream is stopped.

"We genetically modified the bees' sting to be more powerful, more deadly to its predators. Unfortunately, we discovered that when a human being is stung, the bee's venom causes flu-like symptoms, followed by aggressive behavior and then death. The bee flu is highly contagious, spreading through bodily fluids-- something as simple as a cough makes the germs airborne."

This relates to my research because when a bee stings someone/something, venom is injected into them. In this case, the venom from stings caused a more dangerous version of the flu.
