This song shows a girl that wishes she had all of these things in her life. People in our society look at rich people as being superior just as racists look at white people as being superior to black people. Having this predisposed perception that this is the way our society is supposed to be is what leads to things such as discrimination between black and whites and the rich and poor. It is known that white people typically look down upon blacks which is an issue in our society that is working to get changed everyday. We are also working towards not having a distinct different between the rich and poor. Something specific I notice about the photo is the white woman has her back to the board that is being used to show the racism, making it seem that the woman is ignoring the issue. Unfortunately, the woman was most likely ignoring the speaker because she did not believe it was a significant issue which is why it is still occurring in our society today. Black people being shown on the front of magazines, becoming a president and a famous singer that is black. Thus showing all of the progression that has been made throughout the past years. Many people do not realize the racism that occurs, and the white supremacy until they see the statistics that have been found. One of the first significant aspects of this video are the pie chart showing white American wealth compared to hispanic and black wealth. This is a clear indicator that people of races other than white do not have the same opportunities, otherwise they would be able to have the same success as white people that obtain wealth. Another disturbing fact that was presented in this video was that two girls in school, one black and one white, have a very different punishment for doing the wrong thing. There are not many times that movies show black people as the main character. Most characters in movies are white, middle class, unless the movie is about poverty which in that case they may be black, or are portrayed to be bad people. This article points out popular movies that are mostly animated and have voices of other races. For example, the movie Despicable Me 2 uses a Mexican voice as the villain. This is interesting because the villain does not have the voice of a white person, but the little girls that are white have English accents. This excerpt signifies that this persons son was discriminated which also is something MLK attempted to eliminate in his speeches, in this setting we see it clearly was not eliminated. Racism was and still is a large issue in school systems. Children do not play with others because of their difference in race. For example the text stated "before the immigration crisis was declared in the summer of 2014, minors seeking immigration relief were given approximately twelve months to find a lawyer to represent their case before their first court hearing" (Luiselli,2017,p. 39). I would consider this to be racism because the US system is giving the children entering America of a different ethnicity and speaking different languages to do a task most adults are unable to do. Lawyers typically pick cases they know they can win and the child will also have no way to pay for a lawyer, or might not even know what one is. Black people being taught to be mindful while around police is not something that should be occurring in our society. Every child is taught to respect them but our society should not be at a point where police are feared, but they are. This is not the case when it comes to racism. Issues such as discrimination, segregation, and police brutality are still events in today's society. Today's society is filled with people constantly saying racial slurs thinking that it will not offend others, and police brutality is a large issue that has yet to be resolved. The perspective of racism should be that it is wrong to discriminate against others of color or ethnicities. This is the point that is being portrayed through all of these different scenarios. It is significant that the people of our society understand the weight of these issues and that they need to get resolved. People are losing their lives because of these inequalities that they are facing and many more issues that are described. A significant issue that stands out is shown in the novel "The Hate You Give". This shows police brutality in the most significant form. There are several other aspects that are a great concern to racism and the issues that occur in our society still to this day.
