I PO 3. Use simple tools such as rulers, thermometers, magnifiers, and balances to collect data (U.S. customary units).(See M02-S4C4-05 and M02-S4C4-06)
For this assignment the students will create their very own Solar Oven and they will be making S'mores inside of them using the suns heat. This will give them a chance to see how the sun can create energy. They will be able to use a thermometer to see how hot their solar ovens get, in order to make their S'mores. I will introduce Solar energy and give them a definition of what it is. I will give them information showing them how it works and how we use it in the real world. I will introduce Solar panels to them and then proceed to tell them what their projects will be. I will show them an already made Solar Oven and let them know they will make their very own so by Friday they will be able to have it ready to cook. Through out the week we will be doing some research about Solar energy and I will have the students thinking about a couple questions I give them: 1. How hot do you think the oven will get? 2. Do you think the S'mores will melt? I will have them make their own predictions about what will happen on Friday.

To get Solar Energy we need to look at the sun. Solar energy comes from the Sun's energy. Their are different way to convert solar energy into solar power and it is an important source of renewable energy. The sun releases tiny little packets of energy called Photons which travel 93 million miles from the Sun to Earth in 8 minutes. With this much energy hitting earth we are able to have renewal energy.

Arizona is sunny all year round. We have some of the hottest summers which helps us when producing renewal energy from the sun. In phoenix we have 299 days of sun shine. We hardly get rain and cloudy days.

Here is one way we are using Renewable energy which is Solar Energy. We use Solar Panels to create electricity to power our homes. It is a great a great way to create renewable energy. Solar panels are like big batteries getting energy from the sun and making it create electricity from electrons.
