Today I started reading “Ender’s game” by Orsen Scott Card. When I was trying to pick a book yesterday, I was wavering between “The hate u give” by Angie Thomas and “Ende’s game” by Orsen Scott Card. But, I ultimately decided to choose this book because the synopsis on the back caught my eye more. This book is a sci-if novel and another book this author has written is “Speaker of the dead”. This is considered a modern red and there has been a movie made for this book. So far, I like it! Overall, the book falls in the Sci-Fi genre and I really enjoy the style. I have finished 9% of my book and I am discovering a great deal about my character’s conflict. If you recall, my character Ender Wiggin has to leave and join battle school. This conflict can be seen as an identity crisis because he has to leave everything he knows and he has to consider if he should do what everyone else around him wants him to do. For the rest of this blog, I would like to share a pivotal moment in the book that demonstrates this identity crisis.
The moment that really defines my character is when he decides to leave his home and his family and join battle school even though it’s not something he is sure about and he decides to take a risk. The author made the scene quite dramatic by having the parents leave the room when the lieutenant was talking to Ender and then revealing that when Ender sees his sister next she will be a woman. One of the most compelling quotes was on page 26 - “There was nothing to pack. No belongings to take.” This is compelling because he will have nothing to remind him of home and must start everything anew.
I relate to Ender Wiggin because I have also had squabbles and disagreements with my siblings but at the end of the day I have never really hated them and I would be sad if they were to go away. I have experienced an identity crisis in my own life when I have been misled by fake gurus and false prophets on the internet and have lost touch with what really matters in my life. When someone is promised with great results if they just listen to this person it is easy to be coerced into believing anything - especially if you are unhappy with your life and people make promises that they will improve if you follow them.
