         <title>Ottomans Influence on Europeans</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1) The West perceived the Ottomans as a real threat. Europe was afraid the Ottomans would conquer them.</div><div>2) So much of what happened in Europe was a direct response to the presence of the Ottoman Empire on its borders</div><div>3)Ottoman music influenced Western musicians, such as Mozart and Beethoven, adding an exotic color to some of their compositions.</div><div>4) The name comes from a Turkish word meaning turban. The tulips that are still all the rage in the Netherlands and elsewhere originally came from Turkey.</div><div>5) The Ottomans were leaders in cartography and the europeans tried their best to match them.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1)In the 1700s, foreign trade was a minor part of the Ottoman (and therefore the Balkan) economy.</div><div>2)The empirical analysis suggests that empires increased trade by lowering transactions costs and by establishing trade policies that promoted trade within empires<br>3)As the Ottoman Empire expanded, it started gaining control of important trade routes. </div><div>4)Europeans could trade through Constantinople and other Muslim countries, they had to pay high taxes.<br>5)The empire did not take an active interest in sea trade preferring a free-market system from which they could draw a tax revenue.</div>]]></description>
