Names can be empowering if you have one with positive connotation, for example if one meets someone with the same name as a good friend of their's, they may think highly of them. Names can also be empowering due to the fact that it can leave a great legacy and bring more fame. What I mean by this is that when one mentions "that one famous football player" versus using their actual name, you remember more about them and remember all of their achievements and reputation.

Names can also be limiting, however. If you have a name associated with a negative connotation and you meet someone who knew another person with that name, but wasn't a good person, they may think lowly of you and have negative expectations. When one changes their name when they are wed, they may feel like a part of them is gone, having grown up with that last name all their life.

In this class, we can make sure names are always empowering and never limiting by getting rid of any negative connotations that we had from seperate people, due to the fact that these are new individuals. We can also just not make any unnecessary rude comments about one's name.

Names can be empowering because your name is what you leave behind, it is unique to yourself and represents the accomplishments you have done in your life. Our names can also be limiting, like is your last name is from a certain background or people may judge your name and believe you can't do certain things because of what it represents, in gender and heritage. Some steps we can take to make sure our names are always empowering is to be confident in it. You should make sure you are never put in a box based on your name, and to own up to all your actions with your name.

Names can be empowering since they positively influence the individual it has a positive meaning and one would have confidence in it because of that. Names can also be somewhat limiting since they're an individual's label in life, someone would first judge the individual by their name. Some steps we can take in this class to make sure that our names are always empowering and never limiting is to embrace our true identity and not just be directed as a label.

Sometimes names can be limiting because there are people out there in the world who think that certain names mean bad things in life. We shouldn't belittle others just because of their name too, they might make an impact on you if you get to know them better.

Names can be empowering by using them in ways to help uplift a person and can give us an identity. They give the personality that each of us have a special way to be recognized, seen and heard. Our name can be a prideful thing for us, showing our family history or even remembering a person that has passed away.

Names can be limiting when people expect certain things out of you because of a certain last name.

Our names can be empowering because we can make it to be something that other people know and something that makes you recognizable. Also, you name can empower you because of their literal meaning. For example it could mean courageous or determined. On the contrary your name could be limiting based on how people take it or what you do with it. People might not accept your name because of the background of it. However, based on what you put out into the world your name could be something people don't even want to remember. (i.e Adolf Hitler, Osama bin Laden) Some steps we can take in making sure that our names are always empowering is we can be kind to others and try our best to put other before ourselves and lift them up when they're down. We can also do the small thing for other because the good you put out will always come back to you.

Names can be limiting because people might not let you do certain thing because they think that you are not capable enough because of your name. For example, in the activity we did in class one of the quotes had to do with someone not being able to do something because their last name was Lopez. Just because their last name is Lopez doesn't mean they are any less capable than someone who's last name is Smith. We can make sure we have good actions because good actions increase the value of your name. We can also not call each other names because name calling labels someone and that is not good.

These reasons will bring the person with the name down, maybe their held too high of a standard for them, they're being bullied for their name, or even being discriminated for it. Though there is one more reason for it, being named after a recently deceased family member, from what i've heard people who have been named after the recently deceased have others compare them to the deceased family member which could make the person hold resentment for the name. Though I could be wrong for the last one.

things we could do is use nicknames or think about who has the name and not what the names mean.

Names can be a big thing. A person's name can change how other people see them, for the better or worse. A strong, memorable name can be empowering and leave a name in the minds of others that won't be easily forgotten. It can be limiting, sometimes due to factors outside of your control. For example, you are applying to a job and your name is clearly Middle Eastern. Racism might decrease your odds of being accepted. Even if a part of it is outside your control, you can still do things to make it empowering as possible. For example, never judge someone based on their names, looks, gender, race, etc.

However, they can also be limiting especially for women, they have to change their last names when they get married which restricts their ability to express themselves. To ensure that our name are always respected, we should refrain ourselves from discriminating against one another by using their name as a weapon. Also, making efforts to pronounce people's names correctly shows that you took your time and effort to give them respect.
