Another issue I would like to research would be nutrition. I’m the past people suffered from malnutrition in the US whereas now we have rising numbers of obesity. This is also being protected by body positivity movements, the issue Is that although we shouldn’t shame people for their body we also should encourage people to pay closer attention to nutrition for their long term health. 

Heart disease and in particular hypertension. I would like to see the causes of hypertension and it’s effects on people. Long term and short term and how we can treat it. 

Tobacco use and how it affects our overall health. I would also like to see what the damages rhe smoker can cause to their respiratory system and those around them while they smoke. 

Depression and anxiety. I know this is pretty broad but I’d like to see how depression affects people that have depression and those around them. I also would like to know what we can do collectively as a society to tackle this problem as mental health is still overlooked even though it’s brought up often.

2) Explore nicotine addiction in the younger population of the US; how has nicotine addiction changed since the popularization of e-cigarettes, and what do we know about the health implications of e-cigarettes?

 

3) Explore the cross-cultural differences (if any) of how people self-report mental illness. I’d like to focus on the discrepancies between WEIRD (Western, educated, industrialized, rich and democratic) countries and Middle Eastern and Asian countries. 

4) Analyze the prevalence of sexual assault within religious organizations, particularly in relation to the Church of Latter Day Saints. Perhaps I would broaden my scope of research to other large religious institutions in the United States. What kind of information do we have about the likelihood of sexual assault reporting vs how many instances of sexual assault are estimated? Are there policy changes or programs that could be implemented to hold the institutions more accountable? To make reporting easier and less risky for victims?

5) Explore the prevalence of polygamy within religious institutions in the United States and how it affects women’s health. Does it promote an environment where abuse against women is more likely? Where is the line between interfering with religious freedom and protecting women's health and safety?

6) “Free birthing” is on the rise among affluent white families. This is when there is no medical intervention, testing or screening during the entire pregnancy and the birth occurs (usually unassisted) at home. What are infant and maternal mortality rates like among free-birthers? Are there any concrete advantages to free birthing? Is there a correlation between people who insist on free birth and refuse to vaccinate their children. What are the overall public health implications of free birth?

4. Why communities should have funding for updated community centers in rural/lower-income areas.
