Despite this fact, there is much evidence that Jonas and Gabriel died when the book finished with a tragic incident. ‘But somewhere ahead, through the blinding storm,he knew there was warmth and light’(227). The first assumption is that Jonas and Gabriel died of hypothermia. Hypothermia is a medical problem caused by extreme colds and it occurs when the body temperature drops. A side effect of it is to give the victim a feeling of warmth even though profoundly cold situations cause it to happen. Thus, ‘warmth’ and ‘light’ could be used to indicate that they died and specify for what reason they really passed away.  Then, Jonas hallucinating is another powerful evidence in the book. ‘He began to recall happy times. - He remembered his friends - The Giver.’ (226). Actually, It is a common thing to remember all experiences we got so far and memories we preserved in our minds when death is near our feets. The moments we are happy and all joyful memories with our families and friends. We see examples of it in films when a character dies and his life passes before his eyes like a film strip. Also knowing hallucinating as another side effect of hypothermia, we can conclude that Jonas and Gabriel died of extreme cold in that snowy hill. But different predictions are still made by the fans. Firstly, he could still feel. “...and the wind whipped at his face as they sped in a straight line…” (227). Everything he saw could be a dream, but you cannot feel when you are dreaming. Also this was not the same memory that he received from the Giver, therefore we cannot say he was feeling the wind because it was a memory from the past. This was a new memory of his own and we can make the inference that he was still alive from the fact that he could still feel the wind. Secondly, he heard music. “For the first time, he heard something that he knew to be music.” (228). He had never heard music other than the crescendos of the Community before that, and his mind cannot create a brand new memory. Therefore, he must be really hearing the music, and that means he did not die and made it to Elsewhere. In short, although the ending of The Giver was ambiguous, the facts that Jonas was still feeling and he heard music for the first time lead us to the conclusion that he made it to Elsewhere alive.

And people did not recognise it due to the author not explaining The consequence briefly which I do not support. Also there could be another point of view,. They died with the happy memories around them. “… with the communities far behind and no sign of human habitation around him or ahead …” from this sentence we can say that they were all alone and that means that they will run out of water and food causing them to die from hunger or dehydration. Another evidence is “Inside his freezing body, his hearth surged with hope.” . From the beginning of the sentence, we can understand that there is a freezing cold out there and if we consider he was out there for days. There is a chance that he can have hypothermia. To sum up, we can clearly say that they could die from multiple reasons and they likely died.

When they were on the sledge, Jonas was conscious and was able to see. “He forced his eyes open as they went downwards, downwards, sliding, and all at once he could see lights, and he recognized them now. He knew they were shining through the windows of rooms, that they were the red, blue, and yellow lights that twinkled from trees in places where families created and kept memories, where they celebrated love”(228). Here Jonas forces his eyes to stay open so that means he is still conscious and can see. Also, he still remembers the memories that the giver gave him, the love, the family, the light, etc. His ability of remembering also points out that he is still alive and conscious. Moreover, after reaching Elsewhere, Jonas was still able to hear. “Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo”(228). The music comes behind Jonas which means that it is coming from the community. If the music is coming from the community, that means the memories of Jonas had passed to the community and started to occur there which means that Jonas reached Elsewhere. Also, here Jonas could hear the echo of the music. This points out that Jonas still has the ability to hear which means he is still conscious and alive. Lastly, Gabriel couldn’t make it to Elsewhere because there is nothing mentioned about Gabriel at the end of the book. In addition, in the book Jonas was extremely cold that he lost his ability to give memories and that’s why Gabriel couldn’t receive.(224) Giving memories is Jonas’s most important ability, losing his crucial power also shows that they were slowly dying and losing their abilities. Moreover, they started seeing unreal and also beautiful dreams. “For a moment they both were bathed in warmth and renewed strength as they stood hugging each other in the blinding snow.”(225). This dream was obviously not real. Scientists explained that people see joyful things when they are about to die, and they saw a warming memory while they were freezing. This fact in the book also proves that they were lying at death’s door. After meeting the birds fist time, they saw a deer. “They saw deer; and once, beside the road, looking at them curious and unafraid…”(218). Scientifically deers tend to run away from creatures which they don’t know if are harmful. But the one Jonas and Gabriel saw just stared at them so it is appropriate to assume that it saw humans before or even got used to them. Also there is a huge age and durability gap between Jonas and Gabriel. At the end of the book they were both alive and heard the music around. Because Jonas was 13 and Gabriel was 2 it was clear that if they would die in snow, Gabriel would be first. Jonas stated that I was trying to save the community but I might end up killing me and Gabriel.They ran out of food. But we cannot feel when we are dreaming. Also this memory was different from the one he received from the The Giver. So he was not feeling the wind, it was just a memory from past. Also he heard music, “ … he heard something that he knew to be music.” He never heard music before and his mind cannot create a new memory. So he must be really heard that and this means he did not die and he made it elsewhere. All in all the facts that he is still feeling and hearing shows that he made it to elsewhere alive.

There was even a sentence that proves me right. It said, " The giver and I were sure else where it existed". So they might have made it to the  elsewhere. Also, At the community that Jonas lives there is no existence of music but as he reached the top of the mountain. ‘’He heard people singing. Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo.’’ These are the last lines of The Giver. This can be a signal that they had made it to the elsewhere. 
    My second point is that  at the end of the book Gabe and Jonas die. I think this because maybe when they made it to the top Jonas fainted. Then Jonas fainted. Gabe died too because he was being held by Jonas and was very weak. I think this because first of all why would there be a sled at the top. In my opinion when Jonas fainted all of his memories flashed before his eyes. This is believable because one of Jonas' most memorable memories was sledding down a hill. Then he was just lying there while music played in a far off distance.

I think that this is the situation because they try to take care of each other and Jonas struggled a lot to save both their lives.  I think he succeeded. In the last few sentences of the book we are informed that “Jonas sees a light”. It sounds like he's dying, but in my opinion, he’s seeing the sun for the first time. We know that the community has some type of tech to control weather. So they probably have a system that can have a “fake sun”. Because the community stays away from colors, without the sun's light which is white light, you can't see colors (you have to have some kind of white light). So Jonas seeing the sun for the first time may have stimulated his eyes and he may see a big ray of light that hurt his eyes. So at the end they managed to escape.

This statement proves that they reached somewhere else rather than the community they lived in all their lives. I am not sure if they stayed alive after reaching the elsewhere but based on this evidence they surely made it to somewhere else, somewhere where I assume is the real world. Also, I think that they reached somewhere else because in the last page it states that he started hearing something that he thought was music. “For the first time, he heard something that he knew to be music. He heard people singing”(228). This sentence explains that they heard music which didn’t exist in the community they’ve lived in. This should mean that they made it elsewhere, again where I assume is the real world, safely.

In this state of near unconsciousness Jonas finds a sledge, the sledge from a memory not a real sledge.  As Jonas goes down the hill the scene appears surreal and fantastical.  The sledge "sped in a straight line through an incision that seemed to lead to the final destination..."(228). The incision is symbolic of entering a new world.  This is the world where he will be greeted by all who have passed before him, into Elsewhere, as he and Gabriel perish.
