Religion is a method in which one strives to achieve spirituality, an essential belief that revolves around kindness, virtue, compassion, and principles that make someone a “good person.” Religion provides different principles to people which guides one closer to that goal. Religion can easily be seen by only what is on the surface, its rituals and practices, however in principle religion is more than the act, but rather more of the subjective reality one can achieve. 

In essence, religion provides knowledge to the individual much unlike that of academic subjects, but rather elements of human nature and behaviour that one can reflect on.   

A person with a specific culture and religion will act in a specific way according to this culture or religion. Even though the person doesn’t believe in religion, his identity will be affected by the culture surrounding him since the culture is hugely affected by religion. An example of this can be how old people are adapting to the new times. When they were young, they were thought by church leaders and society that men were more important than women, but culture has evolved and now we know better. Here, we can see how these people’s identity was shaped and how they need to adapt to new times.
