Faith may be the main way of knowledge among religions, since it states a relation of trust between the person and the belief. It allows the believer to have certainty of some matters that cannot be achieve though any other method. For example believing in God is a act of faith, it is the pathway that contributes to the way a person will eventually live and act. Sometimes in faith we lack the common evidences we would expect, but it is okay while it is enough for the person.

The role of religion and culture in identity:

The religion that one resonates in or believes in plays a huge role in their identity. Religion is specific to what a person is faithful to (a Hindu person is faithful to Hinduism or the Hindu gods...). For instance, it could determine and/or influence factors like morals, beliefs, actions, ethics, and day-to-day activities. All of these constructs a person's identity. Therefore religion and culture play a large role in constructing identity.

Religion and culture have large roles in the construction of our identity. Our beliefs are what makes us who we are and at the centre of all religion is belief. What we believe in affects how we act and is it not our actions that make us who we are? How each person responds differently in a situation defines them as an individual. Culture in the same sense, allows us to have core beliefs. Religion and culture also allow us to have similar beliefs to others allowing us to relate and feel connected. This is important for our Identity as it also shapes how we react and respond.

The role of religion and culture in the construction of our identity is to provide purpose and give significant meaning beyond daily activities to an individual's life. Religion shapes the culture of nations and therefore will influence a community's moral beliefs and values, and consequently impact the individual's sense of identity. For example in Buddhism, there is a belief in 'karma' – essentially what goes around, comes around. Through the concept of karma, there is a focus on acting less on self-interest and more in the service of others. This shapes the individuals attitudes and values, therefore playing a role in the construction of their identity.

(The term imagination, it can be argued, diminishes the dignity lent to such beliefs by consigning them to the realm of the 'unreal'. But I digress.) Faith explains the beauty we witness on the daily precisely by deeming it unexplainable.

For some people, knowledge about religion allows them to find a purpose and a way to reach divine happiness, as they learn about new traditions and values. However, for some, knowledge about this may not spark any new beliefs within them, therefore adding no additional purpose to their lives. In terms of religion, anybody who is part of a religious community will look towards the knowledge of their religion as one with a great purpose and one which can have a significant impact on their lives -- yet, this isn't true for everyone.

It can shape our value systems and allow us to believe in something which we pursue as our ultimate goal. It can also provide explanations to things that science is unable to explain, such as the creation of mind, the concept of mind and the existence of the afterlife. The knowledge in Jainism provides individuals with a pathway to self-liberation. There is a saying in Islam that “You can’t love until you know,” which signifies that the knowledge of the faith is the precondition for us to truly love people around us. Buddhism, through the Four Noble Truths, gives us the knowledge that rationalises suffering in our lives and leads to greater happiness.

Bahá'i is a religion who are aware or believe that there is a creator of some sort, however are trying to grasp an understanding of this creator. The people of this religion follow text written by Bahá'u'lláh, therefore this is some sort of evidence to prove why they believe what they believe. For example, in Sikhism, the 3 pillars are based off of trying to make all humans equal by lowering the egos of those who are more fortunate, and sharing profits (which could be money, time, knowledge) with those who are less fortunate. Similarly in Zoroastrianism, the religion prompts people to always think good thoughts, do good deeds, and say good words. These religions all require those who practice the religion to acquire knowledge on how to improve themselves as individuals in order to then help others and lead a better present life.

In Jainism, the scriptures themselves are the evidence, but scriptures are works in progress, not laws, so they change with the times to remain as accurate evidence. In Islam, the systematic order and nature of the universe is evidence for the existence of a creator, since it is impossible for the world that is organised as such to be without a creator who has made it so with intention. For Buddhism, the evidence for the existence of reincarnation is simply that there is nothing that can disprove it. We might not accept some religious claims like these ones, but even those claims are founded upon idiosyncratic evidence in some way. Thus, even that idiosyncratic evidence is enough for people to produce and acquire religious knowledge with, and is enough for people to believe and have faith in. If one believes something, then their belief itself can be considered evidence for the existence of the religious knowledge that they have faith in.

Yes for most types of knowledge. Religious knowledge gives meaning and purpose in our lives by providing a goal to its believers. For instance, in Buddhism, believers are given the goal and purpose of achieving enlightenment (24/7 happiness) whereas in Zoroastrianism, believers are given the purpose of doing good deeds. These purposes are spread and internalised through religious teachings of religious knowledge and religious ceremonies.

For instance, in Buddhism, you are taught the 4 noble truths, which all relate to Dukkha (unsatisfactoriness/suffering). These truths provide insight on what Dukkha is, the causes, the cessation of it, and how to lead to its cessation. These truths then give Buddhists the purpose of achieving enlightenment by providing them with the knowledge of how to get there. Hence, knowledge, specifically religious knowledge, does provide meaning and purpose in our lives.

Believing in something also has a faithful aspect to it which is why faith is important. Religions also (most of the time) have a reason for some of their traditions or celebrations and if the person follows the tradition they usually benefit from something. Imagination is also vital in religion as there are many parts of religion that are inexplainable which requires imagination to think about.

We should look for quotations from the sacred scripture as evidence when producing religious knowledge. Religions now may be quite different from their original form due to the long period of time of human activities. Interpretations even vary in the same timebeing. For example, both Taoism and Jainism were divided into two denominations depending on different religion practices. Therefore, we could easily be misguided by derived inaccurate second source information when forming cognitions. Reliable interpretations only come from the orinigal texts.

Knowledge from natural sciences is usually found for the sake of purely knowing more, it is uncovering the uncovered and widening the collective understanding. Even though some scientific facts may disprove it, there is no way to prove what is being said is true, and many religions are based off of "imagination" rather than truths. In addition to this, many religions differ in how they believe the world was formed, because many of them clash or includes different prominent figures. This comes to show that there doesn't have to be a definitive proof, people just have to agree upon it.

Sikhism's holy text, the Sri Guru Grant Sahib, describes the dawn of our universe in a manner near-identical to the widely accepted Big Bang. Such alignment of evidence provides adherents with great conviction of their religion's credibility.

Another kind of evidence to look for is in the world around us. Some religions extrapolate their teachings from observations of the natural world. An example is Taoism's precept that events occur without premeditation, in the same way that a seed may land on fertile soil and sprout magnificently by chance.

For example, in Sikhism, one of the main roles is to be truthful and honest which was what Guru said. Those who believe in Sikhism, therefore, values truth and honesty. Religion and culture does not only make new values, bit it also impacts people when they have to make a decision. For example, one aspect about Jainism is that they give soul to every single thing. This further led to mass vegetation in India. However, this was not something forced. It was a decision made by individuals and religion is something that impacted their choices. Thus, religion plays a big role in constructing values and influencing decisions.

I have actually observed an interesting trend from today's sessions. To my conclusion, apparently when showing devotion to a religion, the more complex and ceremonial the practices are, the less important role the faith plays in this religion. Religions originated from the pursuing of 'truth' of the universe, however in the evolution of religion through time, religions will be influenced and be entitled with other desires apart from the attempt to define the 'truth'. It could be political, cultural, or society reasons, doesn't matter. But in the end, these influences may adjust religions bit by bit until the religious knowledges that the religion provides is altered to serve other purposes.

Religion and culture define the kind of person we are. They condition our vision of the world, our decisions, our behavior, and our actions. Religions have existed on the planet for many years ago and have defined cultures over time. Some traditions practiced today by cultures were born because of religious doctrines in the past. In addition to the traditions, these influences can be seen in social construction, gender roles, marriage, etc. In the same way, culture can also affect religion. Since culture is always changing, religion also is always evolving and has different interpretations over time.

A person with a specific culture and religion will act in a specific way according to this culture or religion. Even though the person doesn’t believe in religion, his identity will be affected by the culture surrounding him since the culture is hugely affected by religion. An example of this can be how old people are adapting to the new times. When they were young, they were thought by church leaders and society that men were more important than women, but culture has evolved and now we know better. Here, we can see how these people’s identity was shaped and how they need to adapt to new times.

This changes their perceptions of the world, which in turn influences one’s identity because a factor of an individual’s identity is the experiences they have and the relationships they have with things around them. People need faith in order to conceptualise their beliefs. Alongside faith, imagination also plays a crucial role, as people do not have concrete proof of what they believe in, it’s all conceptualised and imagination. without imagination, religion would almost lose its purpose, as it heavily relies on each individual imagining what they are praying to and for and believing in. Moreover, reason is also important, as it is what conducts our train of thought and what logically ties our beliefs.

Religion in particular will have a profound effect on the way people receive and interpret knowledge. If a biologist and a pastor where to be told about the same new scientific discovery they would both receive the knowledge differently and with different levels of skepticism. The differing values between someone who is spiritual and someone who is not will shape their biases and impact how they treat knowledge from different communities, shaping the way they interact with others and how they form their identity in general

Some religions advance their strong beliefs by the use of sacred texts. For example in Islam, a Muslim’s beliefs are put forward by using the teachings of the Qur’an as a source of evidence.
The representative who spoke about the Islamic religion provided some verses of the Qur’an—the guidance and Holy book of Allah for Muslim believers—to support and somehow reinforce his Islamic beliefs in God’s existence, the purpose of humankind, as well as the creation of the universe and nature. The Qur’an itself is considered as an answer and evidence to universal and scientific questions through the revelations given by the Holy book. Also, Islam does not deny or contradict scientific theories and explanations. Ideally, it supports them, yet it is strongly believed that above them is a Divine Entity and Creator.
