(OMG!!!) One with Mary in glorifying God! by

"UNION WITH MARY" GP#9 Since the spirituality of our Community is centered on Christ, we see the role of Mary in relation to Christ: she is the model of our own collaboration in Christ’s mission. Mary’s cooperation with God begins with her “yes” in the mystery of the annunciation-Incarnation. Her effective service as shown in her visit to Elizabeth and her solidarity with the poor as reflected in the Magnificat, make her an inspiration for our action for justice in the world today. Mary’s cooperation in her Son’s mission, continued all through her life, inspires us to give ourselves totally to God in union with Mary, who by accepting the designs of God became our mother and the mother of all. thus we confirm our own mission of service to the world received in baptism and confirmation. We honour Mary, the Mother of God, in a special way, and we rely on her intercession in fulfilling our vocation.

"I feel Mother Mary’s closeness whenever I am praying the Rosary. I don’t have a particular image of Mother Mary that is dear to me, but I call her Inay or Mother. I always make it a point to pray the Rosary as I got to work and have it in my pocket, and it seems like Inay, is always with me. I feel that Mother Mary was instrumental in my second lease of life after my bike accident and my operation. Whenever I pray the rosary, I always feel her loving gaze and maternal affection. It was through her prayers and intercession that i found myself falling in love with Jesus. I always beg her to help me be attentive to her Son Jesus and to aid me in my last hour, so that like her, I may have a happy and holy death." I ask the community to join me in approaching Mary our Mother and commend to her maternal care and protection my daughter, Miriam who is sick right now.

Mary, Our Mother. Pray for us.

-Mark Sheran D. Leosala
Nuevo, CLC

Mama Mary does not call attention to herself but presents Jesus to all of us.

This image reminds me how Mama Mary lived out her Fiat. She never wavered despite the pain and difficulty she faced. Her message to us is clear and strong, “Do whatever He tells you.”

This is the message of commitment.

It is such an honor and a blessing to have the same birthday with Mama Mary, Sept. 8. Everytime I celebrate my birthday, there's an extra special feeling because of the feast of her birth. I would call Mama Mary as Nanay Maria, the same way that I would call God as Ama or Tatay. I have known Nanay Maria as a child because of my grandmother who would lead the rosary in the Latin version of the Litany; from the singing of Ave Maria during the Wednesday novena at the church just right next to our school, and to the Block Rosary of Fatima in our neighborhood every Saturday.

Since then, I believe Nanay Maria was really the one who led me to know and have a deeper relationship with God. She truly is an inspiration in my life knowing the story of the Annunciation when she felt perplexed before she said yes to her mission. She is a model for me of great faith and loving obedience to God. I admired her strength of character and yet being full of meekness and gentleness.

When I am faced with all sorts of challenges, Nanay Maria would hasten to my call when I say, "Nanay Maria, please be a mother to me especially in this difficult time." I was and I am very certain of her presence from her warmth embrace, realizing how I surpassed all those battles.

My devotion to Nanay Maria shall continue until the end, and I share these two Marian images given to me as birthday presents from Tita Cora Sim and Jeff Panguito. Will surely always pray for all. Nanay Maria, pray for us!

- Joy Asajar (Compassio CLC)

This Mary is more popularly known as Our Lady of Victories. She's also called Our Lady of the Smile because it was said that when St Therese of Lisieux got sick of a mysterious illness, she saw this Mary "smile" at her and she got healed. It is now believed that St Therese was having an episode from a mental illness.

My second name is "Marie" - named after our Mother Mary. It's a huge honor to be named after her. I pray to Our Lady of the Smile because as a person living with a mental illness, I am hoping that like St Therese, I shall be healed by Our Lady of the Smile. I keep on praying to her and asking her to intercede for me.

I would just like to ask for prayers for all people suffering from any kind of mental health issues, as we celebrate Mental Health Month this October.

The National Pilgrim Image (NPI) of Our Lady of Fatima.

Under this particular apparition of Mother Mary ⚜️, who revealed herself as 'the Lady of the Rosary' on her final manifestation on 13 October 1917, on which came along side the 'Miracle of the Sun' 🌞 at the Cova d'Iria in Fatima, Portugal 🇵🇹.

I chose the image of Our Lady of Fatima on the following reasons: foremost, she is the Patroness of my home city, Valenzuela, where her national shrine is situated, and second, my expression of my humble gratitude to God for the graces received through her maternal intercession, specifically my professional career as teacher, and lastly, through the image, I feel being drawn to Christ (represented by the 'Miracle of the Sun'), thus opening myself to ongoing conversion of heart leading towards to cultivate spirituality towards things eternal with her loving maternal gaze, moving my humble self to be an advocate of truth, justice, peace and reconciliation, in my little way.

To recall: it was on 13 October in 1998, that I received the news 📰 that my name was included in the List of those who passed the Licensure Examinations for Teachers (LET). That date was used to be the former fiesta at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima here in Valenzuela City. Likewise, on 13 May in 2005, the liturgical Memorial of Our Lady of Fatima, I was accepted to work as a teacher in one of my former stations, Manila Cathedral School, a Catholic Parochial school in Tayuman, Tondo, Manila. Situations within these given 'graces' where imperfect, in which through the trials experienced, God taught by imposing hard lessons on myself, that led me towards valuing integrity centered on truth and accountability in stewardship.

With this painstaking journey that resembled an odyssey, I join Mother Mary in her 'Magnificat' to God: 'he has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly.'

Prayers humbly requested from the CLC Community for the grace of stability and perseverance.

+AMDG!

Jose Wenceslao A.
I experienced Mary as Stabat Mater when I lost my two sons: one to kidney failure and the other to a vehicular accident. It was also her RADICAL HOPE that made me rise above the pain and made me more ready to proclaim the Lord of the Resurrection.

It's an image I found on Facebook, attached to a post containing a written account of an exorcism. I like it because it's a rare image of Our Lady. She is a warrior, a slayer, a big boss, a punisher, a subduer. We often call her the "Mother of Mercy", but she mercilessly crushes the enemy of our salvation, the accuser and the deluder of her children. Although she does not look very motherly in this photo, her motherhood expresses itself quite strongly to me still, especially as I am a prayer warrior.

Unlike other apparitions, her rosary is not the Marian rosary but the Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows. She appeared as a teacher to a Rwandan schoolchild, asking for prayers (especially the Chaplet). She promised that those who would pray the Chaplet often would find the courage to repent for their sins. Had people listened to her messages, the Rwandan Genocide need not have happened. Her apparition helps me answer where God is in times of great iniquity and suffering. Heaven weeps and suffers greatly, similarly to how a mother suffers twice or even thrice as much when her children are hurt. But at the same time, where sin abounds, God's grace abounds even more. The response to the call of repentance and the cries of the suffering are the keys to healing and reconciliation.

Admittedly, it is very difficult for me to resonate with Mary because of her immaculate nature. Though she was human like us, I can't help but think she is nothing like us.

I chose the image of Michelangelo's Madonna della Pietà because this is one of the few images of Mary that I feel her humanity. Perhaps it is because she feels pain, like us. Perhaps it is because she too mourns, like us. Perhaps it is because she loves, like us. This image of Mary humanizes the divine Mary I always struggle to connect with.

Erika Rivera
Youngest Community

My favorite image of Mama Mary is the one found in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at Sacred Heart Novitiate in Novaliches, QC. In my senior year of college, we had our Ignatian Silent Retreat there - and I was praying over several life transitions - broken relationship, uncertainty of the future, graduation from college. I was blessed to have Ate Rory Valdellon (+) as my retreat director back then - I consider her as one of my "spiritual mothers" in CLC. Ate Rory journeyed with me, and in one of my retreat prayers, I had a good reflection on the many maternal persons in my life - guided by Mama Mary to nurture and raise me. I am very grateful for their loving care and guidance in my life - which shaped and formed my personhood.

Through many journeys and challenges, Mama Mary has always been a source of inspiration, comfort, consolation - her caring presence in my life brings me to a closer and more loving walk with her son, Jesus Christ.

In my years living in Saipan, CNMI, I followed my cousin Albert's devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help as I attended Wednesday novena prayers and masses with him and his wife Emie.

My spiritual director in Saipan, Sister Maryann Hartmann of Mercedarian Missionaries of Berriz, also journeyed with me and helped me to deepen my relationship with Mama Mary. Her presence and guidance in my life makes Christ's loving presence and friendship real to me. She gifted me with an image of Our Lady of Lourdes which I placed in our family altar at home.

I recall attending mass at National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help for the first time back in 2013, pregnant with my third child, and very close to my due date. Mama Mary granted me the grace of a safe pregnancy and delivery - truly, Mama Mary's help, her intercessions and prayers are a constant in my life.

I recall Sister Mary Agnes (+) of the Carmelites in Zamboanga City teaching me to pray: "Mary, Mother of Jesus, be my mother too."

As I navigate through life challenges now, I pray for steadfast faith, courage, compassion, and loving trust in our Lord's plans, inspired by Mama Mary's FIAT.

- Tiffany "Fanny" Lim To
Camino Nuevo CLC

One day in 1988, together with my wife, Bebs, and some friends, we decided to go to Paete in Laguna. Paete was a well-known wood carving village in the country. We stopped by a large souvenir shop that had a range of wooden statues of from gigantic sized saints to key chains. Although the items on display were beautiful, somehow there was a reluctance for me to buy any of them I decided to walk along the streets outside and look at the smaller stores.

I passed by the shop of a wood carver who had images of the Immaculate Conception lined up for drying. They were in different stages of production. Some were complete with white and blue paint with gold accents and trimming. Others were in white, while others were in different stages of blue and white. They were a sight to see.

I decided to go closer to have a better look. Somehow, I felt my heart pounding as I looked at the back of the shop and saw a wooden image without any paint at all. It was a one-foot-tall image of the Immaculate Conception. I found myself smiling as I looked at it.

I asked the wood carver how much the image would cost. He said that it was not for sale. He was carving this for a client who would get it as soon as he could finish the paint job. I asked him how much it would cost to purchase a finished image. Ouch! It was not cheap! But it was funny that I felt I was willing to part with the money.

I told the wood carver I will pay him the full amount. And I did not want any other mage except the one without the paint. A simple, bare, wooden image of Mama Mary. I managed to convince him that he had time to make a new one for his client. He agreed!!!

So, now, I have this wooden image of Mama Mary beside my bed. And every time I look at Mama Mary, I remember Jesus saying to me “Behold your Mother” and then to Mama Mary, Jesus said “Behold your son.”

Mama Mary, please, bring peace to our family, our community, our country, and the whole world. Amen!

Jody Sim (April Fools)
