The Female Athlete Triad is a medical condition seen in females who are physically active. The combination of not having correct nutrition, overworking the body and lack of energy leads to an irregular menstrual cycle and can then lead to osteoporosis (brittle bone disease). In some cases, dancers are not even aware that they have the female athlete triad and will continue to eat their usual diet despite not gaining the right nutrition.
https://www.acog.org/Clinical-Guidance-and-Publications/Committee-Opinions/Committee-on-Adolescent-Health-Care/Female-Athlete-Triad?IsMobileSet=false [Accessed 10 December 2018]

Nutrition is extremely important for dancers because if they do not get the right nutrients they will not be able to perform to the best of their ability.
"To perform at their best, dancers need to be adequately fueled for the activities in which they participate regularly..."
