The essential question - How does the state of California envision support for all students at the school and district level?

Chosen quote - MTSS and RTI2 are similar because they both rely on a problem-solving systems process and method to identify problems, develop interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention in a multi-tiered system of service delivery.

I chose this idea because it states that both the multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) and the response to instruction and intervention (RtI2) will utilize systems to assess their productivity. The productivity measured will be the students’ success and development. When they are assessing themselves they will identify if there are any problems with their success as well as adjust any student interventions. By engaging a systems process for the evaluation, they will ensure that they are supporting all students at a school and district level.

What I like about quote #2 is that California understands that interventions will be necessary, and when they are done schools should be using tried and true methods. That is, the intervention solutions should be not only appropriate but also research-based. It is easy to fall into the trap of doing things that we think will work without having some idea of a true success rate. If we use solutions that are shown to be effective from real research we can know we are doing something that has a real chance of success, and we can also better justify to others (parents, administration, other teachers, etc) why we chose a particular intervention solution.
