Our team liked the idea of creating a timeline for students that breaks down each step of a project and holding them accountable for following the timeline rather than fall behind.

We found this to be very informative. Across multiple subjects, you can find chunking of texts, peer to peer conversations, real world experiences, cognitive behavioral ideas through instructional strategies, and that we can PLC across campuses. Our aha moment came when multiple connections were found using instructional techniques within our group.

We discussed the importance of collaborating with other departments to ensure the use of common vocabulary, strategies and to develop thematic lessons.

We found that some of our strongest strategies came back to modeling examples for students as much as possible, whether that means providing a photo or chart where there wasn't one, or perhaps creating a physical model where there was otherwise only a photo.

I had a good time sharing stories with my tablemates and realizing that a lot of stuff we do is very similar like circling and annotating.

We talked about using key words a lot. Our aha moment was breaking down the assignments into chunks so they understand what to do each day when they are doing better projects.

The use of an exit ticket with students summarizing their learning and sharing it with a partner can be a powerful practice used in multiple content areas.

Reciprocal Teaching - I want to use this in geometry to have them self discover how they could use proportions and shadows to measure things in real life. I think it could be a fun activity outside and require teamwork.

Lots of vocabulary that we can incorporate across all curriculums. Marking the text works for everyone. Think pair share, turn n talk.

I really like think pair share. I always suggest to the students that they should be talking to one another during their warm ups. But they never do. Recently I have been having them complete their warm up and then tell them to turn to their partner and tell each other their answer. I think hearing each other's answers helps them validate their thinking.

In Spanish, students are required to practice their phrases with their peers.

Our group liked the assignment to analyze the political cartoon; we could apply this to a different type of analysis in English class where we usually analyze text!

I Learned that annotating the text is a powerful strategy! I am reminded that it works in word problems for math and science. Guided problem solving is useful in life as well.

Table 15 loved the Social Studies Example 1. It involved multiple days and lots of conversation. The imagery shows great intention. It promotes student inference and peer contributions.

Many assignments required students to mark up the text to pull out important information. Many were organized with step by step directions.

We saw the connections that are possible across a variety of curriculums, and there are definitely strategies (think/pair/share, note summaries, modeling) that can be easily used. We acknowledge that some classes (Sped, frosh classes!) that struggle with behavior issues will have to modify and adapt. We need to have time to bring the info back to our departments to share ideas too.

We discussed the importance of including a visual representation along with a text. This may be an image that is provided by the teacher along with something like notes, or it can be an activity that asks the students to create a symbol/sketch/other visual of their own to help create stronger connections and deeper understanding.

Our group appreciated the visual and connective touches to the real world to engage the students The map for Math #1 was a great example of measuring distance.

Learning maps can help organize student thinking and promote discussion. Gallery walk to add on to other ideas then pick the best answer as a class. Quick write before to generate predictions/inferences on what they think/know before the content. Then quick write after to write about what they learned/discovered.

The focused notes and marking the text strategies can be used in any area. We also liked the political cartoon assignment as a group.

Having students make visual representations for text is beneficial. Also, marking text with symbols; pictures; colors help students interact with the text better.

It was interesting to hear how different subjects approach the subject matter. How math uses brain dumps, special education really likes using inferences, social studies and english link connects, etc. I have students make inferences in my classroom but I never use that specific word. It was a aha-ha moment to learn that was a term being used frequently in other subjects.
