Mexico

Feliz navidad! That’s how you say Merry Christmas in Mexico. In Mexico most people celebrate Christmas. It is wonderful colorful sight in Mexico on christmas. In this essay you will find out what people wear eat and how they decorate in Mexico for Christmas.

Mexico City is located in Mexico. Mexico is located in Middle America, bordering the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, between Belize and the US and bordering the North Pacific Ocean, between Guatemala and the US.in Mexico. Christmas is celebrated from December 12th to January 6th.The Climate in Mexico varies according to its topography. Along the coast (on both sides of the country) it is hot and humid, unbearably so in the summer. Inland communities at higher elevations such as Guadalajara (5200 ft above sea level) and in particular close-by Lake Chapala, are much dryer and more temperate.

From December 16th to Christmas Eve, children often perform the 'Posada' processions or Posadas. Posada is Spanish for Inn or Lodging. There are nine Posadas.it's traditionally eaten in Mexico's southern states, as well as the central states. They celebrate christmas because it was the day Marry gave birth to baby Jesus.

Tamales sometimes will replace the bacalo or turkey. Pineapple upside down cake often is served as a dessert during the holidays. Ponche is a drink made of sugar cane, prunes, apples and the fruit of the tejocotes (a hawthorn bush). The most popular and well-known women's pieces of clothing in Mexico are huipil, quechquémitl, rebozo, Mexican skirts (they have various names in different regions – enredo, chincuete, posahuanco, refajo, enagua). Huipil is a sleeveless tunic, made from cotton or wool. It is worn with a skirt. For the Posadas, the outside of houses are decorated with evergreens, moss and paper lanterns.

Thank you for reading my holiday around the world essay.

Christmas in England

Zander Kouchis
4th Grade - Mrs. Harbin

Today you are going to learn about how England celebrates Christmas. England is part of the United Kingdom. England celebrates Christmas on Tuesday December 25th, the same as us. Lincoln Christmas market was the first Christmas market in the UK and opens in Cathedral Quarter, they transform it into a winter wonderland with food, shopping, music, lights and fun.

A cool tradition they have, is when children hear their favorite Christmas story, they then write a letter to Father Christmas, with their wishes. They then toss their letter into the fire so their wishes can go up the chimney. After the children fall asleep on Christmas Eve, Father Christmas comes to visit. In England they refer to Santa as Father Christmas. He wears a long, red robe, carries a sack of toys, and arrives on his sleigh pulled by reindeer. He fills the children's stockings with candies and small toys. The day before Christmas is very busy for families in England, they wrap presents, bake cookies, and hang stockings over the fireplace. Then everyone gathers around the tree as someone tells they’re favorite story. Families welcome the warmth and cheer of a Yule log blazing on the hearth, a tradition where a large log is burned in the fireplace on Christmas Eve.

On Christmas Day, everyone sits down to a midday feast and finds a colorful Christmas cracker beside their dinner plate. A Christmas cracker is a paper-covered tube, when the end tabs are pulled, there is a loud crack and out spills a paper hat to wear at dinner, small trinkets, and a riddle to read aloud to everyone at the table. On christmas it is really snowy in england, it is normally cold, wet, and foggy in England at Christmas time.

The day after Christmas is called Boxing Day. This day has nothing to do with fighting. Long ago, people filled church alms boxes with donations for the poor. Then on December 26, the boxes were distributed. Now people often use this day to give small gifts of money to the mail carrier, news vendor, and others who have helped them during the year.

The holiday and traditions in England are different from us, although there are some similarities with a few things. I thought it was cool to learn about how kids in England celebrate Christmas. My favorite tradition is where they read their favorite Christmas story and then write their wishes on a piece of paper to throw them in the fire, so they go up the chimney for Father Christmas. I think England would be a fun place to visit one time and I would like to go to the Lincoln Christmas Market. England’s eat on christmas yorkshire pudding, turkey, potatoes.

Along the coast (on both sides of the country) it is hot and humid, it’s super hot in the summer. Inland communities at higher elevations such as Guadalajara (5200 ft above sea level) and in particular close-by Lake Chapala, are much dryer and more temperate.

During this entire time, one can see nativity scenes, poinsettias and Christmas trees. Cool fact!! In some states in Mexico children expect papa Noel to come on December 24th. In the south of Mexico children expect presents on January 6th at Epiphany, which is known as 'el Dia de los Reyes'. On el Dia de los Reyes the presents are left by the Three Kings (or Magi). The Mexican celebration of Christmas is called las posadas and begins on December 16. The ninth evening of las posadas is Buena Noche, Christmas Eve. The children lead a procession to the church and place a figure of the Christ Child in the nacimiento or nativity scene there.

I hope you like our report on Mexico!!!
