It was also said that it began a thousand years ago with dances and songs that were performed in honor of the god Dionysus.  Many greeks took part in Theatre that they even had three week-long festivals. The festivals mostly sponsored both tragedy and comedy.

The Greek Actor goes into detail about who the Greek actor was,what they were known for, and etc. The Greek actor was regarded very highly in the Greek society. The actor would potray god, king, or a legendary hero. The actor wore what they called a chiton which was aso known as a long robe. To add height they wore platformed shoes.

The Greek Theatre is mostly about the display of the theatre and where everything goes. Some locations in the theatre being the theatron. Parados was a term that identified the entrance of a song. The orchestra was known as the skene. The platform was known as the proskenion.

The role of the Chorus was about the roles in which people played in the Chorus. In the chorus there had to be 15 men. They sang lyric poetry and danced to musical accompanient. The chorus in which they performed was regarded as a civic duty. Lastly, they were trained and customed.


The origin of the Drama talks about a variety of things. Drama began with the early Greeks. They produced religiously oriented plays to commemorate the life and death and ressurection of the God of vegetation, called Dionysus. The FGod of the vine was also known as a God of resurrection.  Since the Greeks believed in the God of the vine they had a festival named after him.

The mask talks about a mask and what it is in the Theatre world. A mask was known as a persona. The mask was uaully made of bark, cork, or leather. When the actor wore a mask it served as both a megaphone.  This war was fought to decide which generation would have full control of the universe.
the war lasted ten years, but Zeus eventually won, the titans were imprisoned in Tartarus.

The creation of Man-
Prometheus shaped man out of mud, and Athena breathed life into his clay figure.
Prometheus also decided to make man stand upright like the gods did and to give them fire.

The gift of fire-
Prometheus felt bad for his human friends/ creations since Zeus said he wasn't gonna give them the most important tool which is fire.
Prometheus stole a bolt of lightning from Zeus and gave it to mankind.

The creation of women-
Pandora was the first women created out of clay by the gods. Zeus wanted her to serve as punishment to mankind.

Jason and the golden fleece-
Jason was the son of king Lolcus, Aeson. Jason's uncle Pelias killed all of his siblings but failed to kill him.
 As Jason grew older he went on his quest to take over the thrown.
Dionysus-
the god of grape harvest, wine making and wine, ritual madness, fertility, and religious ecstasy.

These songs and dances, and etc led to what we know today as theatre. Theatre flourished in Athens B.C under the leadership of Pericles, it also became the center of culture and governmental power for ancient Greece.
The Greek Actor- The greek actor goes into citizens and their civic duty. The experienced citizen performers got the status of actor, the Greek Actor. In this time frame women weren't allowed to act. Actors would portray gods, kings , legendary heroes, and etc. to be seen by the audience that was further away the actor wore costumes. The actors wore a Chiton, a long, flowing robe, dyed in symbolic colors. Along with the Chiton they wore Cothurni to add height, high platformed shoes. Actors often had properties(props) to establish roles.
The Greek Theatre- Greek theatre goes into the design of the theatre and where everything is placed. The theatron also known as "the seeing place" is where the audience sat on benches. The parados is an entrance song of the chorus in a tragedy. A skene is a backdrop for the action of the play also serves as backstage (dressing rooms,  mask, etc). A proskenion is the platform in front of the skene, gives more visibility for actors.
The role of the chorus- In a chorus it contains 15 trained men, sang lyric poetry and danced , costumes, and etc. there were many functions of The Greek chorus, they provided tension release and often expressed the mood and pacing of the play. 
The Structure of Greek Tragedy- Explains the certain structural divisions such as the prologue, chorus, exodus, parados, and episode and staismon.
The origin of the drama- Drama began with Greeks, Dionysus was known as the god of the vine and god of resurrection. the Greeks believed that Dionysus would live again in spring and thanked him for the rebirth of vegetation in the spring by celebrating the festival of Dionysus. The festival took place in the theatre and lasted five days.
The mask- The mask was used to inspire and awe the audience by appearing more than mortal and to also hide the actors face from the gods as he imprisoned them. The mask also served as a megaphone. The mask identified age, sex, mood, and rank. A mask was called a persona.

Uranus and Gaea made Cronus. Cronus then overthrew his father, In fear of a prophecy he feared  his children would do the same, so he swallowed each one.

Zeus gave his father a poison that led him to throwing up the rest of the children.

The creation of man-
Prometheus and Epimetheus were given the tasks of creating man and beasts, Unfortunately, by the time he got to man, Epimetheus had given all the good qualities out and there were none left for man.

The gift of fire-
 Zeus withheld fire from humans to get revenge on Prometheus.Prometheus felt bad for humans so he lit a torch from the sun and gave it to the humans . Zeus got angry because he was making man more powerful by teaching them these skills. 

The creation of women- 
When Pandora married Epimetheus, Zues gave her the box as a wedding gift and told her not to open it.

Jason and the golden fleece- 

During his adventure, they went to Salmydessus, Where their was women-headed, bird-bodies called harpies. The king of the land welcomed them but with the curse of the harpies, he wasn't a very happy guy. 

Dionysus-

All these beings coincide with each other, thus creating the world as we know it today and its balance (I.e. Day and night).

Gaea and Uranus created the one-eye cyclops race, other monsters including the 12 titans. Cronus, the youngest and most violent of the titans, castrated and killed his father, Uranus, thus assuming leadership over all the titans and the rest of universe. More rage-filled monsters were created from Uranus's discarded testicles.

The Olympians Vs. The Titans

Cronus learned that one of his children was destined to overthrow him like he did to his own father. To prevent such outcome, he began to swallow all his children, except for Zeus, who Rhea kept hidden. Zeus grew up inside Mt. Ida, once he matured enough, he demanded of his father to vomit up his siblings, and then joined forces with Cronus to challenge the titans for control of the universe. Zeus and his siblings won the war, and after a hard decision, Zeus became ruler of gods ad the heavens, Poseidon took over the seas, and Hades took control of the underworld.

The Creation of Man

Prometheus and his brother, Epimetheus, who were both titan born but sided with the Olympians, were tasked with creating the men and beasts of Earth. Prometheus created mankind, with the vision of the Olympians in mind, and Epimetheus created the beast using swiftness, cunning, protective fur, and physical strength.

The Gift of Fire

Prometheus gave fire to mankind, because he felt bad that Zeus wouldn't give it to them, Zeus ended up chaining Prometheus to a rock in the Caucasus Mountains where a vulture came everyday to eat his liver which regenerated every night, this happened until Hercules released him.

The Creation of Woman

Zeus ordered Hephaestus to create women to punish men, Hephaestus named the first mortal Pandora. Pandora was given a box holding all forms of evil, overcome by insatiable curiosity, she opened the box releasing all the evils and after she looked inside the box, she found a small glimpse of hope.

Jason & the Golden Fleece

Jason was the son of King Aeson of Thessaly. Jason was smuggled from the city. on his way to the palace he met an old woman -actually Hera in disguise- who begged to crossed to cross a river. as he crossed a river, he lost a sandal, once he got to the palace, his uncle said that a man with one sandal would be his demise. His uncle sent Jason on a quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece, promising him the kingdom back. He assembled the greatest heroes in all of Greece to bring it back.
