"Fact or Fiction" Summer Story by Dakota Jaworsky

We’re going to have some fun with storytelling today. Your task is to write a story about your summer. It can be either true or completely made up—it's up to you! Think about your summer and pick a memorable moment. This could be a real event that happened to you or something you invent that you wish had happened. If you choose to make up a story, you might want to include details from your summer to make it feel real, even if it's not. Your goal is to deceive your classmates, as they will read your story and guess whether it is "fact" or "fiction." Once you’re done writing, you’ll share your story with the class. After everyone has read all the stories, each of you will guess whether each story was fact or fiction. Pay close attention to the details and clues in each story to help you make your guesses. After the guessing, we’ll talk about what made each story convincing or surprising. It’s going to be a lot of fun to see how well you can trick your classmates and how good they are at figuring out the truth!

Tatiana

One day, some years ago during summer I went to the beach with my family and church. We were all having fun. I was 10 years old. I went to the lake and I was having fun with other kids from church. We played with a ball and hot potato. Some hours later after we had lunch we went to swim.

Later that day, after swimming we decided to play hide and seek. We were about 15 kids. My older cousin who was 12 years old, and my friend from church were the seeker. There was a prize for the winner which was 20 dollars. I went kind of far from the spot where everyone was, and I unfortunately got lost. I was lost for 10 minutes until a lifeguard found me and took me back with my parents, I wasn't that far but there were too many people, so I got lost. Ever since that day I don't like beacher that much.

Brianna-

Over summer break I was attack by a moth.It was around 10 pm and I was in my very comfy bed scrolling on tiktok; after playing roblox for a few hours. I told myself I would scroll for 30 more minutes, then I would go to sleep. Almost 15 minutes into my timer I felt something fall on me. I thought it was a piece of hair tickling my arm so I brushed my arm with my hand. As soon as I did that I felt it move, then I knew it was NOT a piece of hair but, the moth that was on my shirt. As soon as thoughts of the annoying object being a bug crossed my mind; I quickly jumped up and turned on my phone flash light and a lamp nearby. When I did that the moth started chasing me around my room. As I frantically ran around my room screaming, I thought enough was enough and started swatting at the moth; soon causing it to crash into my window. I assumed the moth wasn't very happy that it crashed into my window so it came back for round 2 of chasing me. At that point I didn't want to entertain it so I left my room for an hour, waiting in the living room downstairs. When I got enough courage to go back into my room I checked for the moth. Still cautious of the moth, I turned off my lamp and hid under my blanket hoping that it wouldn't return. I now have PTSD :(.

Angel-

It was 5 in the morning and we had just landed in Ft.Lauderdale. We had an hour and a half to make our connection to Newark, and it wasn't going well. My dad was just too nervous since he didn't realize he couldn't bring fresh fruits into the country. Then a Agriculture officer came up to us with a K9 to sniff out anything it possibly could. We were all nervous and the pears that my dad brought were discovered. We got sent to a secondary inspection point, by the time they inspected us we had already missed our connection. We tried to rebook to Newark but ended up going to Myrtle Beach instead as there were no other flights until the 3rd of September. How to get back home, my dad thought. They were 2 options, take a flight from Myrtle Beach to Newark or have a road trip back home. We all decided that the road trip would be a good option so that's what we did.

Katherine-

During the summer my family and I went to a lake in the mountains. It was very quiet when we arrived. The water was very cool and clear enough that you could see the fish swimming around. I swam on the deeper end along with my cousins. One of my cousins had attempted to try and catch a fish. He failed miserably. It was much colder the deeper we went. Not too far away from us, we also saw ducks, just relaxing. They didn't get scared when we got near them. The air was a lot fresher in the mountains, and the breeze was warm. The atmosphere around us was very relaxing and we all had a good time.

I was walking in New York City, and from the corner of my eye, I saw a tall, slender, elegant looking, man. I walked over to him. He had a crowd of girls around him, but I waited my turn. Once I finally got to him, I asked for a photo and he said yes. He was very nice. He even offered me a free "Painted" pallet.

This was my top experience of my summer. I was jumping for joy. He even sang for me. He sang his iconic impression of "Bring Me a Little Water, Sylvie." He was amazing. I'm still surprised I got the chance to meet him.

Melissa

I flew to Guatemala for 2 months and went to multiple places. I went to a private island and thermal pools. I took a boat to go to the private island and once I got there I saw a dog who was catching crabs. The dog chased the crabs and bit them, which they fought back as well and sometimes pinched her nose. My family was with me and family friends. We went walking along the beach and then a tragedy struck. My nephew stepped in a fire pit that was covered up with sand, and because it wasn't put out it was still hot and he screamed and quickly ran out of the fire pit, they put aloe vera on his foot because it burnt through his skin.

Later on I went to thermal pools, the pools were boiling hot, like think about when we had to do mozzarella in culinary. Yet the water was hotter than that. I surprisingly managed to fully submerge myself in the water yet at first it hurt to move, but after a while it seems a comfortable temperature. I also went to a sauna which was very hard to breathe in at first because of all the humidity and heat. After we got some fruit from some nearby trees which the owner let us get. I saw so many lizards there all over the walls. My brother told me that the lizards go for blood and could go up your nose, yet I'm still not sure if it's true. After that we got home and made some food and said goodnight to everyone and went to sleep.

Aniyah

On Saturday around 5, I met up with some friends at the park along with my sister. We spent a little time hanging out before walking back to my house to then get froyo. It was rather cool but still a little hot, so me and two of my friends wore shorts while my sister wore long jeans. I also wore a new pair of purple sneakers. On the walk back, two of my friends ended up fighting with my guy friend's flip flops, which my sister recorded and later posted. It was funny to watch, I just made sure to stay out of the camera. Once we made it back to my mom's house, she was ready to drive us all the way to Hamilton Marketplace. The froyo was pretty good, even though I went on a rant about smokers despite a guy a little behind me actively smoking. I felt a little embarrassed because I never noticed him, but it was funny. I ended up getting a bruise on my foot, which went away after a while.

Rex | In the month of either July or August, I went to the beach to celebrate my cousin's birthday. It was his treat. He drove me and my brother, until his tire popped. Had to wait for a bit until he went with his dad to get a new tire for his car. After that, we continued our way. We got to the beach and had to walk a long way to get to the actual beach part with the ocean. I was tired. We ate some ensalada de pollo sandwiches with chips and some soda. I swam with my cousin and brother and then returned back. After a while, some people saw a fin. My mother thought it was a shark, as well as others. Turns out it was a dolphin, or so we thought. It could have been a shark that jumps out the water. Who knows! Then my godfather found a horseshoe crab and we showed it to people who were curious. I made a pretty sick sandcastle, I think. Though there was horrible wifi there so I couldn't send the picture to my friends. All in all, it was a pretty neat trip. We went back home after cutting and eating the cake for my cousin for his birthday. My legs felt sore for three or four days. Not a great time.

We went to play basketball and we were dogging on some random people in a pickup game. Then we took a break and got some food from a corner store. I got a chopped cheese and an Arizona. The Arizona was a special Brooklyn flavor. Then on our way back we met up with our local friend Christian and coped a new wife beater because the one I was wearing got ripped.

After we bought some new clothes and shoes we went back to the court and watched a game that was going on. It was lowkey mad hype. Then we played some more ball at a different court with some of our local friends. Then when it got late we decided to get some of the gang together and throw a party by the air bnb. So we got like 10 of us together listened to some Tupac and biggie and just vibed. Then at like 2 in the morning everyone went home and we cleaned up. We found a ton of peoples clothes so it took us forever to give them back to everyone.

Most of the time is where a really nice beach area to have a picnic and to go to the river that felt nice and warm. An amazing view is the way the wind moves the water and the sunset at the same time feels like an amazing view. Another thing I did is also a cabin place called the retiro for a church thing and was also a nice place too with rock climbing, zip lining which was really awesome and the pool was good too and the food was really bad too.

Kamila -

This past summer I went to Puerto Rico. I hadn't gone since last year and my grandparents missed me and my brother. We flew in on July 28. It felt super rushed because just the week before I was at summer camp the whole week away from my family and I couldn't pack before summer camp. My mom was rushing me day of the flight which made me panic even more. We had a 3:00 am flight to Puerto Rico. This sucked because just the day before we had spent the entire day packing and leaving the house clean, which left us exhausted. Our plan was to leave at 1:00 am to make it in time to check in and pass through TSA. I got maybe 2 to 3 hours of sleep that night. My aunt was the one that took us to the airport. She got there early while the entire house was freaking out grabbing everything we needed. She sat on the couch and slept until we were ready. We finally got everything ready at around 1:20 and we dashed out the door. We made it past TSA and check-in without a problem but when we got to our gate there was no seats so we just stood around waiting for our gate to open. The flight was just a little over 4 hours and I was able to sleep just because I was so tired. However, it was interrupted sleep because of how uncomfortable I was. When we arrived it was really rainy and damp out, typically how Puerto Rico's weather usually is. We were greeted by our uncle who we hadn't seen in forever. We drove us to his house as we passed the palm trees of Puerto Rico. He showed us to the room we always stay in and I was finally able to rest fully.

To put it shortly, the hunters hunt demons, while working on her physical strength she will have awakened a power she didn't know she had, called "Hell's compromise", which exchanged her powers that she would have had with the occasional possession of a demon, seeing as this demon had access to Jesse's soulcausing her to go down a spiral of mental health issues, that only her older brother could pull her out of, with a bracelet that suppresses the monster, granting her with the ability to take his powers momentarily at will.

Joshua

At around 4 in the morning, one day somewhere in the middle of summer, I heard the fire alarm go off. I had only just woken up. Since it was the fire alarm, which is a serious matter if the fire alarm is going off, for obvious reasons, I sprinted outside as fast as I possibly could. As I ran through the halls, hearing the fire alarms over anything else, and trying to stay focused on getting out alive, I couldn't help but notice that no one else was running outside, or even awake. Which was puzzling to me. If the fire alarms were going off, which is very loud and can be heard from outside the house, why was no one else awake? I was confused at this point, so I took a second to look around the house a little bit, I checked every room, the fire alarms were still going. The noise was deafening, but I found that there was no actual fire. Maybe someone was playing a prank and everyone else was in on it? Soon enough, my parents had woken up because the dog was loudly barking. I couldn't hear the dog over the noise of the fire alarms. I soon realized why no one was awake and why I had been hearing fire alarms for 30 minutes at this point. I fell asleep with headphones in. I was watching youtube late at night and letting some videos autoplay while I was drifting away to sleep. Because of this realization, I went to go and check my phone just to see the video "fire alarm noise 10 hours" playing. I laughed at myself for like 5 minutes because of the silly mistake I made. I had headphones in throughout the entire night and didn't even realize they were still in my ears even after I woke up.

Elijah-

Over the summer, I went to the Poconos. One day while I was there, I went to the neighbor's house. These neighbors take care of a lot of birds. Some examples of these are pigeons, guinea fowl, chickens, and ducks. While we were there the guinea fowl were constantly harassing the hens and the neighbor had to intervene constantly. While we were there there were these small roosters that were constantly trying to, and sometimes succeeding in, kicking the neighbors. At some point one of the neighbors had to pick up a hen and one rooster was very obviously annoyed and was repeatedly kicking her. She eventually put down the hen but the rooster didn't stop approaching her and occasionally kicking her. We also talked about at some point a hawk, trying to grab a pigeon, ended up grabbing a hen instead. The ducks also were chasing around some roosters for some time. The neighbors had around 8 coups for the birds. They also had 2 dogs that would guard the house while they were away. The ducks were also almost constantly hanging around the pool they had and washing themselves off.

I was in a call with my friend and my cousin and they were talking about going to Crunch Fitness in Hamilton, I asked them if I could go but no one could pick me up so I woke up at 6 in the morning and walked about 20 minutes to my friend's house where I met up with him. After meeting up with him we then started to walk to Crunch which took about 30 minutes. Once we got there I had to sneak in because I didn't have a membership, luckily there was no one at the counter and I just walked right in. 20 minutes later my cousin arrived and then we were working with dumbells and he ended up dropping one on my phone damaging the screen. At 10 we left the gym to grab some food then I walked back home with my friend. After I said goodbye to my friend and walked by myself, 2 dogs started chasing me until I lost them, then I finally got home.

It took over two days to get to our location. We took a stop at Virginia at first, then North Carolina the next day. When we had gotten to Alabama, we checked into our hotel and went to get food. We had chilled for the rest of the day. The next day we had gone to an aquarium not too far from the place we stayed for most of the day, then we had gone to dinner. On the next day, we went to eat at a lot of various places that weren't common up in or near New Jersey. By the end of the day I was really full. Most of the it started to rain for the end of the second to last day into the last day when we were about ready to leave. The second to last day we went to an amusement park that was very fun. It took us the whole day to knock out all of the rides there. By the end of this day we were about ready to leave. He had went on the road by morning. We had stopped at those same hotels we did when were driving down to Alabama. The whole trip took us a total of 9 days from Alabama back to New Jersey.

Jayden

----------------------------------------------

This summer, I went to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina to visit my cousins. It was raining almost every day, but it's the south, so it's pretty common for it to rain that much. On the days that it wasn't raining, I went to the beach and water parks with my cousins. On the days that is was raining, I mostly stayed inside and played games with my cousins, and on occasion went out to the movies or shopping. My favorite part was going to the pool, because I got to relax. One day on my way back from the pool, I saw a snake in a field. The family that owned the pool owned a lot of land, so animals that you wouldn't usually see in other places were very common here. My least favorite part were the amount of bugs there were. I've never liked bugs at all, and they seemed to always want to bother me wherever I went. I stayed for about a week and a half, and I definitely would want to go back again.

Star

Over the summer I went to a live show from my second favorite artist ever at Philadelphia. I arrived to the spot an hour before it started with my mom and we hanged out until about 6 where the artist played 2 quick songs as a warm up. Afterwards they had a small meet and greet before the show and I was able to buy 2 homemade shirts from them (Which were made a night before and where stationed in his living room) + get a picture with them and got them to sign a book of mine. I was extra lucky since the artist only brought about 50 shirts and I was the second in line, meaning I was one of the few to be able to get a shirt let alone two. Since I had a bunch of left over time me and my mom got some horrendously expensive food to share. Then the meet and greet ended and a underground artist introduced the actual show and played a couple of their own songs (I would say about 7). Then the main show started and the artist played most of their new album (Some songs even being the first time they ever sang them in public) + some fan favorites and had a final meet and greet afterwards where you could talk to them and get a picture. Overall the whole experience was amazing and it lasted about 4 hours from 5pm when we arrived, to 9 pm when we left.

My cousins and I were walking around the lake while our parents were parking and getting their things out of the car. One of my cousins was helping her Dad bring the towels out of the car and as she was helping him a bee started to fly around her. We were trying to shoo the bee away but it kept following her around and we kept laughing at her because she's scared of bees. After some time we ended up going into the water because it was starting to get really hot outside. We asked my cousin to go get us the towels for when me and my other cousin got out but the same bee started following her out of the water. She kept waving away at the bee and at some point while she was trying to get it to leave her alone, the bee stung her on her arm. She looked like she was starting to tear up cause of the sting and we got out of the water to go help her. On the way home she kept crying about getting stung and my other cousin had slapped her on the arm as a joke to get her to stop whining which just made her even more irritated. My family was mentioning going back next year but because my cousin got stung and made us leave early we decided to not go back.

Ruhi -

This summer, I went to Washington D.C. and while I was there, I visited many government buildings such as the chambers of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, the Capital Building, and the Hall of Justice. I also got to see the White House. During my visit to the chamber of the House of Representatives, my family and I were able to get into the balcony viewing area of the chamber. On our way out, I asked the receptionist if there was a way to visit the floor of the chamber. The receptionist told my family that usually, visitors weren't allowed unless they called their state representative for clearance but then he said there could be a possible exception for my family. He then called over one of the police officers guarding the entrance to the chamber. He then asked the officer if he could escort my family down to the floor of the House chamber and surprisingly, the officer agreed. As we made our way to the floor of the chamber, we saw several paintings of past House representatives while the officer talked about the architecture and some of the history of the House. When we got to the floor, we could see the seats of the representatives and we were even able to sit in them. The police officer then told us about some of the symbolism behind the chamber's design. For example, surrounding the upper part of the chamber where the balcony viewing area my family had previously been in was, there were sculptures of the faces of several historical figures on the wall. These figures were people whose ideals had an impact on American law and the Constitution and were carved in a way that made it look as if all the faces were looking at the Speaker of the House. The officer also showed us a bullet hole in the drawer of one of the representative seats that was formed during a shooting in the House during the nineties. We were even allowed to touch it. Then we left and made our outside and continued our tour of the city.

Skanda

When I was in Greece with my family, on a cool Saturday morning, we found out that our return flight to the USA got canceled because of a miscommunication. The relaxing day suddenly turned into a nightmare. The two other families who were with us started to call the airlines and check if we could get a refund to book new tickets. The airlines cruelly said no. We still had one final event in Greece, which was a sunset on a boat ride. The parents were still trying to negotiate with the airlines and the travel company during the boat ride, and that seemingly pleasant ride turned sour quickly. When the sunset happened, everyone suddenly became calm and relaxed as we came to terms with the issue. After the boat ride ended, we hurriedly came back to the hotel and packed and went to the hotel, hoping we would catch a same-day booking flight to the USA instead of staying in Greece for an extra day....that did not work out. We to sleep feeling anxious about Sunday, when we were reserved to leave the hotel. Miraculously we found an airline with just the right number of seats for at least a family and a half leaving the same day. We booked that flight, while the other families booked some other flights. The day was going in our favor. We took two of another family's kids with us when we left for the United States....it took us 19 hours to arrive back.

Luckily we had two of our friends over for a sleepover until their parents could arrive which was pretty fun. Finally, the rest of the group arrived in the United States a few hours after us, and we laughed about the situation in the comfort of our houses.

Martin

We were flying back from Bulgaria... Or at least that was the idea. We were standing around near the check-in. "Sofia Int'l Airport", said the sign. I looked around frantically to find a sign displaying the flight information, and sprinted, suitcase in hand, to the nearest one. My eyes darted around as I looked through the list of endless destinations, and there it was... Frankfurt, Cancelled. The skies were clear but the airplanes were stationary. We ran to the nearest counter we could find, my grandmother lagging behind. The Lufthansa employees scrambled to find our flight number.

"Your flight has been cancelled due to poor weather conditions in the airport," said the employee.

"Were going to miss our connection!" My mother shouted.

Me and my dad furiously dug through the mountains of clothes in our bags and pulled out the passports. Minutes passed as the employees searched and searched through a database of nearby hotels and other companies that could take us back, but to no avail. After what felt like an eternity... success! A hotel, Mariot, 4 stars with included meals. We were saved.

Spandana-

I visited the Parthenon when I was in Greece this past summer. To get to our destination, we had to climb over eighty steps. The wind was howling the higher we got. It was extremely beautiful because it was around sunset time. The group began to disperse as we were all taking pictures. "Spandana come over here", said my mom. She pulled me aside so I don't get lost because it was extremely crowded. I tried to see what was going on and saw a guy who was proposing to his boyfriend. We discovered that he had turned down the marriage proposal as everyone gathered to see what was going on. Since there was the large number of tourists at the location, the guy left as soon as he was rejected, while bawling. The situation was extremely awkward, making our visit to the Parthenon feel uncomfortable. When the guy proposed to his boyfriend, everyone was excited at first. But things quickly got weird when the proposal was turned down. All of the tourists were in complete shock but they began doing their own thing after a few minutes. As the guy left, everyone awkwardly went back to taking pictures and exploring, trying to move past the tension. My mom and I exchanged looks, both feeling the weirdness of the moment. It was strange to see such a personal drama unfold in such a grand and historic place.

Rahul -

Over the summer, I attended a friend’s birthday party where we played paintball. During the game, I was circling around to catch the opponents off guard when I suddenly realized that no one was around. The area was unfamiliar to me, and everything seemed new and unusual. All I could hear was the faint rustle of the wind in the leaves. My paintball gun felt heavy in my hands, as the silence grew loud. I tried calling out but only heard silence. I started walking towards the sound of traffic, thinking I might be lost when I stepped on a crudely made twig trap. The thing was made of 3 sticks and a vine. Before I knew what was happening, I was hit four times in the chest and ended up on the ground, struggling to breathe. My friend had gotten a camouflage suit just to sit in a tree and make zero noise, and listen to the leaves crackle under my feet. Since then, I’ve never forgotten to check my surroundings.

James

This summer, my dad was very angry with me. He knows that I have a very messy room, so before we went to do laundry, he came upstairs to my room. He did this to make sure that there were no clothes laying around on the floor.

When he opened the door, he didn't see any clothes; only my wooden chair, mini-fridge, and my broken bunk bed. He walks into one of the two closets in the room and checks inside as he orders me to look underneath my bed for any clothes.

After deducing there were no clothes underneath my bed or in the first closet, he goes to the other side of the room to check my other closet. I stood off to the side as to not get in his way. When He checks it, he sees the remnants of a plastic drawer, the three bins sitting within each other, each holding something. The first bin held a laundry bag with mystery items. The second bin held the first bin, and the third bin is where I kept my books.

My dad grabs the laundry bag and tosses it to the other side of the closet, but when it lands, he hears a dull clattering sound. My heart dropped. I knew that if he opened the bag, I would be in big trouble. But he curiosity got the better of him, and he picked up the bad and turned it over.

In the bag were dirty bowls. These bowls used to hold the lunch that I took to school. When I forgot to wash one, I'd stick it into the bag and leave it there in order to have space for the next one. But then the pile grew, and I did nothing about it. My dad gathered the bowls back into the bag and carried it downstairs to my mother.

"Look at what your son has been hoarding," My dad said has he shows my mother and grandmother the bag of dirty bowls. "This CANNOT go unpunished! That laptop goes into my room and it stays there until I go on my trip!"

He was referring to his trip to Africa. That was in two weeks. No laptop for two weeks!

"Since you don't know how to treat the bowls when your done, you wont take a single grain of rice to school next year." My mother added. Great. At least those vultures would leave me alone.

And of course, I needed to clean my room up after we finished the laundry.

Liam

This summer I went to Austin, Texas, for an endurance race. It was at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) and went for 6 hours. I flew to Austin on August 27th and flew back on September 1st. The race was part of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) the same championship which has the 6 Hours of Spa and 24 Hours of Le Mans, among others. It was won by the #83 AF-corse 499P in Hypercar. The #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage took first place in LMTG3. It was the third Ferrari win, and the first outside Le Mans. I wish Cadillac would've won, since it is their home race and I am a fan. It was a home race win for the Heart of Racing team, since they are based here in America. I loved my time in Austin. I loved the sound of the cars, their loud, different, and powerful engines, the smells of fuel and rubber, and the smells of the food. Such good food. Some of the best smelling and tasting food I think I've ever had was in Austin. When I was there I went Karting an abundance of times. My best placement was 2nd. 61.6 seconds was my fastest lap. I enjoyed my time there greatly and wish to go back.

As my siblings walked in the door, we felt a huge waft of cold air sweep our faces. Later on, we listened to gut-wrenching music over the speaker. We then settled down and watched That's My Boy ft. Adam Sandler, which was very...interesting. At the very end of the movie, we bussed down to some CupcaKke(don't look her up) very wildly. By the time it was time to leave, we rushed to the front door before security caught up to us. But...wait...outside was like the beginning of a horror story: "It was a dark and stormy night. *Thunder cracks*". Our brother, Niegel, sprints to the door of the drenched car and drives it all the way across the corridoor. He almost, JUST ALMOST, gets stuck in the grass, driving home practically blindely.

Ezra

Over the summer I was able to buy a a small camcorder that , and due to the fact I wasn't able to hang out with my friends, I decided to walk to a small store near my house. It was a quaint store named Wargamers Guild that sells foam terrain and miniatures for many Tabletop RPGs, and because all I could do was walk, I decided walked there. It was a harrowing half an hour walk, that had me cutting through many streets throughout my neighborhood. Cars sped past me as i walked up the first hill, but I paid no mind to them. It was a few moments before I got to a cross road. The cars still whizzing but a lesser amount. The smell of gasoline lingered as I trudged on past the road. I was able to take many pictures of the buildings I passed, and the few trees i saw on the sidewalk. I continued through, finally making it to the store. I walked through the doors and was greeted by a tall man in blue shirt with a cracked picture on it. I wasn't able to see what it was because he was too busy painting some small creature in his hands. I walked through the small store seeing many books and paints and terrain, but none of them caught my eye. Soon, my eyes caught a small goblin miniature for a game I play. The man finally acknowledged me as I finally walked up to the counter

"That all?" he asked as he ringed it up. All I could do was nod and pay for the goblin before I left and hurried home. I held the package close to me as I rushed home, passing the same few trees and crossroad. As I entered the empty blue house, I ran into my room to marvel at the small piece of plastic.

I tried to look at my camera every night staying up trying to find her. I went outside with a flashlight and tried to look around my house. There was nothing there so I went back inside. A couple minutes later when I went back inside. I saw her by the door and was surprised on how skinny she was after a week of being out. I was talking through the camera and her ears moved like she heard me. I opened the door and I brought her inside of the house. She was rubbing against me and I was playing with her. I was so happy that I found her by myself. I was so confused when she left. I did not know where when and how she left. I tried to find her for so long and today was the day that I finally got her back. I did it all by myself awake at night all alone.

The bus was very crowded and everyone was yelling, and suddenly my bus driver had made a quick turn. All we heard was air going out the tires as we slowed down on the side of the road. We looked out the window and 2 of the tires were deflated... We weren't even in 5 minutes of driving when this happened. He got out and started pacing up and down as we were watching him from the window wondering what he was going to do. It was about to be time for school and we were all gonna be late, as we frantically waited. He said he would figure it out but we were stuck there for 5 minutes... then 10... then 15... He was still pacing outside not knowing what to do as people called their parents and started leaving one by one. It was only me and a few other kids on the bus at this point... The other bus finally came and I got to school late.

Kevin

When I was in Guatemala with my family, on a windy Saturday night, we all decided to go out to the local fair. My cousins and I were walking by and wanted to get on the Ferris Wheel, but the only thing holding me back from going on it was the safety of the ride. The ride barely had support and the seats for the wheel kept shaking back and forth and even did a complete rotation. My cousins kept bothering me to go on it, So I did. We paid for the ride and got on the seats. A seat could hold up to 3 people, so the 3 of us were able to fit perfectly on the seat. I was getting scared because the only thing keeping us from falling from the ride was a metal bar with a shaky lock, but it was too late to get off. After all the seats were filled up with people, the ride started to function. The ride started slowly and slowly, and my cousins and I were at the very top. We could see our house and even more rides from the view. That's when the ride came to a sudden stop. The ride had malfunctioned, and we were stuck at the top of the wheel. My cousins started to yell and shake the seat, which only made me even more scared. It turned out that one of the safety bars supporting the Ferris Wheel had broken. However, the workers had turned the Ferris wheel on again because they thought that the machine malfunctioned. The whole ride I was scared, and we were on the Ferris Wheel for a good 5 minutes. When the ride finally came to an end, I quickly got off the ride and didn't go on any other ride the rest of the day. We went to eat food before we left the fair, and my cousins were making jokes of how scared I was on the Ferris Wheel on the way home. Thankfully, that was the last day of the fair and the next day everything was taken out and the place was empty.

Nivi

This summer, I went to Switzerland. I visited many places, such as villages, mountains, and old towns. My favorite village is Grindelwald; the views of the bright green hills among the snow-capped mountains and the wooden houses looked eye-catching. On one of the hikes, I could hear the chiming cowbells from the black, white, and gray spotted cows. There were fields of colorful wildflowers, adding vibrancy to the beautiful view. "These wildflowers are so pretty," my mom said. At the end of the trail, I spotted a turquoise lake in the middle of the Alps. I could spot a couple of streams descending the mountain. My sister wanted to experience the glider, but there were too many negative reviews, so we skipped that. I even got to visit the top of a snowy mountain, which is Jungfraujoch. As soon as I entered the Ice Palace, I was greeted by a snow globe containing a moving cable car to the top of Jungfraujoch. Among the many ice sculptures, I especially loved the penguin. The floor of the ice palace wasn't slippery, despite it being made of ice. The views from the top of the mountain were spectacular. I even got to view a glacier among the rugged texture of the mountain. Switzerland is the best place I've ever been to.

Syed,

During the Summer I went to the beach. I got ready and grabbed all of the essentials for the beach and got into the car. On the way, I wondered how the beach would look and if it was going to be nice there. When we arrived the beach was packed with people and it was hard to find parking. After 10 minutes of searching, we found a parking spot, I got out of the car and grabbed all of the things I would take with me to the beach into a cart that I strolled with me. Going down the ramp onto the sand I took my shoes off and stepped into the warm sand. The sand felt nice and I continued walking towards the shore. When I got there I laid down the mat to sit on and took everything out of the cart. Suddenly a car comes behind me with two people in it. They said to not go into the water since the waves were starting to get larger and more dangerous. I didn't think much of it and began making my way to the shore as they left. The cold water crashing over my legs sent a shiver down my spine. I returned to my spot and sat down enjoying the view since the sun was beginning to set. As I did I grabbed some Doritos enjoying the cheesy flavor of it. After an hour of relaxing on the beach, I get up and start picking everything up and placing them in the cart. The sand cools over my feet as the sun disappears over the horizon on my way back to the car. When I get back I clean up the sand off of me and get into the car to return home.

Yohandry -

During the summer, I would go to my dad's work and help him on roofs. This is good for preparing me for my future because I would have experience in the world of construction. It was a bit scary being so high up. It sometimes felt like the wind would knock me off. It also felt like I was on top of the world. Sometimes, he would let me drive in his van. I enjoyed driving in his van. The breeze hit my face as I drove with the window down. I felt like I was a pretty good driver. While driving, he told me to drive a little bit faster. Truthfully, I was going at about 10 miles per hour, so it was slow. I sped up a little bit and it was feeling good. I felt like I was becoming more and more experienced. I was driving in a residential part of a neighborhood, so I had to be careful. It was all peaceful and it was going well. Then out of nowhere, a dog ran into the street. I thought the dog would move, but it decided to sit there. Like it was waiting for ME to move. I didn't want to hit it though, so I had to swerve, but luckily I didn't hit anything. My dad didn't let me drive again.

Xavier

This summer on July 7, I was attacked by a bat. I was sitting in my bed with my half-empty Sprite drink in hand, scrolling mindlessly on TikTok while my TV silently played in the background. LED lights gave my room a bluish hue. As I scrolled, I decided to check the time—10:00 o'clock. My eyes slightly widened at the hour, and I put my phone down, saying to myself, "I need some sleep; got a trip tomorrow." I threw the covers over me, closed my eyes, and felt my breath become steady, drifting into a light slumber.

Suddenly, I awoke with a shock; something had fallen. I walked into the hallway and saw that the cocoa butter had dropped. I thought nothing of it and began walking back to my room. As I plopped back into bed, trying to go back to sleep, I heard a small shriek, like a cry from an animal. I dismissed it, thinking it was just the neighborhood cats making their usual noises.

As I drifted back off, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a black shape flying around my room. "I think I'm going crazy," I mumbled. I turned on the light and jumped in fear; a huge bat was flying in circles, bumping into my walls and knocking over my soda. Out of sheer panic, I ran out of my door and slammed it behind me.

Soon after, I told my dad there was a bat. Without another word, he ran downstairs, grabbed a paper bag, and rushed back upstairs into my room. He caught the bat that had perched on my piano in the corner like a dark shadow waiting to be freed. He watched it carefully and dove in, catching it with ease. As he took it outside, I breathed a sigh of relief. I headed back up to my room, closed the door behind me, threw the covers back over me, and drifted back off to sleep.

Pierre

Over the Summer, I went to iceland and saw a whole bunch of icelandic sheep. When we were driving around the country there was a couple of sheep that were munching on grass. While driving on a thin road next to the ocean there where a couple of of sheep were basically laying under the guardrail. One of the sheep's butt was on the road. just as we passed then I looked over to my mom and said "Oh my gosh, we almost hit that sheep."

The funny part was that the sheep was looking in the wind and it's fur was flowing in the wind.

Matthew ~

Over the Summer, I went to the boardwalk and many events took place. I had just arrived at the boardwalk and decided to head to area where the beach was. While in the water, I had felt something seemingly soft and when I looked down, I found out my foot went right beside a living shark. Completely surprised I vigorously made my way back onto shore and decided it was time to leave the boardwalk's beach. On my way back to the boardwalk I encountered several marine life carcasses. After multiple surprises, I decided it was time to just ride my bike peacefully on the boardwalk thinking my luck couldn't be any worse. A few minutes after riding my bike I hit a bump which caused me to fall and injure my leg. Bruised and battered from the fall, I got up and decided to just buy a pretzel and go home. I walk over to the stand and ask the worker for a cinnamon pretzel and come to find out I was 15 cents short.

Some nights we would stay up late until we heard birds chirping outside. My favorite games we played on Roblox was Rivals and Dress to Impress. I liked playing those games with them because it was funny hearing their yells when they lost.

During the summer I went to some unknown mountains with a friend and his family. At the mountain I met his extended family and were getting to know each other until one of their pets, a big dog named Lani and one of their kids KJ ran by me and scurried of into the yard with something in its mouth. KJ chasing the fleet footed dog screaming "LANI GET YOUR @#@$% OVER HERE!". They weren't very strict when it came to language since he was one of the older kids around 17. Anyways I watched as he chased the big yet nimble dog around until it pooped while it ran causing KJ to slip on the freshly made feces and land on his butt straight onto the doodoo. Some intervention with Mrs. Anatole (the grandma) swift coming towards her hands, we finally see what was in his mouth. Turns out it was his phone and his girl was on the other line.

Saiwa

Over the summer, I worked a lot. There are tons of interesting stories I could tell. From Karens, to coworkers getting terminated, to Sesame Place secrets. (I'm actually not supposed to share the secrets but you know what I mean.) The story I'm choosing to tell is just one of the many. Unfortunately, getting to my job wasn't simple. The drive was about a 20 minutes and I often had early morning shifts. This meant I'd have to wake up early, wake my parents up and get ready quickly so we can get on the road a soon as possible. I never enjoyed waking up early but early shifts were honestly better. I preferred the smell of the park before we opened than the smell of BO (body odor 🥲), funnel cake, chlorine, popcorn, and tomato sauce all at once. In the early morning, all the employee entrances we're wide open and easy to get to. The park smelt like peroxide and chlorine and I found it almost refreshing. It was quiet aside from the sounds of coworkers making small talk as they swept and cleaned the areas that would soon be trashed again. The only negative part about mornings was getting there which brings me back to my story. There was one day where it just so happened everyone in my family had something to do. We only have one car so that meant we all had to ride together. I was getting dropped off first. The sound of my baby sister's tablet, my dad's music on the aux and the brushing of my other sister's arm on mine as we hit bumps all had me looking forward to getting dropped off. When the car did come to a complete stop, I quickly collected my bag and got out. As I was wiping down the cabana tables, I was chatting with my coworker Laila. She was much older than me but we were friendly. That's the funny thing about work. You meet people you never would've met otherwise. I can't remember what we were laughing about because what happened next was just a bit more memorable. There was a huge BOOM! Everything was very quiet after.

"Was that a car crash?", I asked, my voice still shaky form laughter.

"That scared the **** outta me. Probably though."

"SAME! My heart dropped. It was like REALLY loud."

Our supervisor came running over.

"Is the power out?!"

We were cleaning with the cabana lights off. We tried to turn them on. They wouldn't. I headed over to the cooler. Those lights were out too.

"The drinks are gonna spoil", Laila said, slightly concerned.

Our supervisor looked stressed. I looked at the time. The park was meant to be opening in five minutes. I noticed all pool sprinkler stopped and I thought about the long line I knew was outside of the park. What were we gonna do? A security guard came over and told us a power unit exploded. That's why it was way louder than any car crash I've heard. We couldn't let the guests in. We couldn't leave. Sesame Place was about to lose thousands of dollars and as employees WE had to come up with a solution...

"$9.50..." I said aloud. (That's how much I get paid an hour lol)

(I can't get in to what happened next cause this is already way to long. So, cliffhanger. 👌)
