         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>Caption</em></strong><br>      Learning objectives are “brief, clear, specific statements of what learners will be able to do at the end of a lesson as a result of the activities, teaching and learning that has taken place” (Bachwood School, n.d.). They are focused on three areas of learning: knowledge, skills and attitudes. Both students and teachers benefit from learning objectives. Students clearly see what they are intended to learn and the teacher has clear focus when preparing the lesson. Objectives can be used by both to gauge the success of a lesson and student progress. <br><br></div>]]></description>

The teaching strategies used were Flipped Classroom and Modelling. Flipped classroom was used to promote student-centred and collaborative learning. This strategy was used as most students were exposed to Partnership type businesses in Principles of Business. Modelling was used as the teacher demonstrated by way of an example how to properly construct a current account, a new concept for students. Both strategies were deemed effective as objectives were met and learning was achieved, evidenced by the completion of formative and summative assessments. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>Caption</em></strong><br>      This section focuses on what instructional scaffolding is and the component parts of the process. Scaffolding involves the teacher providing temporary support for students. Gradually, students are able to master skills and the teacher releases control. This is particularly useful in Principles of Accounts as the teacher often starts by modelling work, leading students to a point where they can work on their own. Although a couple of my students do not consistently display a need for scaffolds, the majority requires some support. Scaffolding allows for the provision of this support especially for low and middle achievers. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>Caption</em></strong><br>     The task is to draw up and balance the General Journal for opening entries in the lesson Books of Original Entry- The Journal. This is important as students need to know the uses of the Journal and how to enter balances. In later topics, they will be expected to transfer this knowledge to complete Journals for other types of businesses. Task analysis is beneficial to students as an activity is broken down into steps. Again, this is very useful in Principles of Accounts as it allows for all learners to follow the same steps to arrive at the same point.<br><br></div>]]></description>

I describe how I plan to teach and assess the unit “Conflict and Trade Unions” to my form 4 POB class. In this current economic climate, the role of trade unions is a very important topic to be explored in the classroom. Using real situations within Trinidad and Tobago to look at the grievance procedure followed makes the issues more relevant to students. The rubric used to assess the task provides guidance to students on what their focus should be, in completing the task. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>Caption</em></strong><br>      Assessment is a process of collecting and interpreting information which can be used to make decisions by students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders (Illinois State Board of Education, 2015). The Principles of Assessment, Validity and Reliability were chosen to be discussed in this section because of their importance and relevance to my context. Being a private institution, my school consistently uses formative and summative assessments which are analysed and reported to many stakeholders. At the end of each academic year, students receive awards based on their performance in assessments in each subject area. For these reasons, it is therefore important for me to ensure that my assessments are accurate and reliable so that sound decisions can be made in the best interest of the students.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>Caption</em></strong><strong><br>      </strong>Curriculum integration involves connecting different areas of study by cutting across subject disciplines, focusing on making connections for students (Boyd, n.d.). This entry details the integration of visual and performing arts into Principles of Business. Many students are gifted in and/or love music and this creates interest and excitement for them and me. Integrating art into my Form 5 class was also beneficial as struggling learners in my subject who are gifted in art, were able to assume leadership roles, applying business and art concepts to the real world. This was also a positive learning experience for me as I was able to see these benefits first hand and I recognize the importance of liaising and collaborating with other teachers.<br><br></div>]]></description>
