As the narrator, Nick moves to the utopia of the West Egg, where his propinquity to Gatsby allows for him to be immersed into his world. From his first person point of view, we see how Nick sees some of Gatsby's actions as unwonted until he gets to know the kind of person Gatsby truly is.

Nick is a first person narrator, so the readers see through his eyes which decry Daisy's feckless actions which eventually kills Gatsby. His attitude influences the reader's own opinion of the characters: Daisy and Tom's nefarious nature and credence to Gatsby's passionate heart, despite being a criminal. His perspective helps forward the idea that Gatsby is a symbol of the dream to be praised, which is why he begins ignoring everything in his life: the wealthy people surrounding him, as they are selfish. The wealthy ruin the American dream.

Nick as the narrator dissembles his judgment towards the wealthy which feeds into his tendency of being an unreliable narrator. This shows his bias towards old money especially contrasted by how he eulogizes Gatsby and puts him on a pedistal. Nick coming from outside of the West Egg vs East Egg culture gives him a unique perspective from the other characters. The lavish parties and culture seems like a utopia from the outside, but Nick's perspective shows the real grittiness behind it all which would have been difficult to obtain from other characters.
