Using Colour, Alexander Calder used colour to make the painting look like it has different things happening. It shows that the painting has used it as objects on the page. Using shape, Alexander Calder has used shapes to represent a couple things such as the half circle as a moon. I think that the painting shows a night but used red for reasons I don't know about.
-Arisha

This are my thoughts about Alexander Calder’s painting “Untitled” from 1953:1: Line - The 2 big lines look like 2 snakes: one with arrows in it and another that is trying to go away. The butterfly is also made of lines lines and is also trying to sneak out. The little line in the middle is a earthworm and it is made by one line.2: Colour - I think that the Alexander Calder used watercolors to do this art work. He used different colours : red, blue, white, black, orange and yellow. I think the colour red represents blood and the white part shows the people that don’t want to fight. The black darts are bombs. The blue is the moon. The orange and the yellow circles are two houses.3: Space - The snake on the line is overlapping the three arrows. It gives the impression that the arrows are in the snake. There are three different sizes on the painting: First the big size (the two snakes), then the middle size ( the earthworm, the butterfly, the moon and the two houses) and the small size (the bombs). He has placed all the animals together and all the darts and the circles together. He put more red than white on the picture. The red part is taking over the white one. About the perspective, my opinion is that, if I understood it right, this picture has a zero point perspective. 4: Texture - I have look on the internet what material he has used to do this painting but I couldn't find any information so I assume that this painting was painted on a canva. I think it feels like many fabric weave under the fingers. 5: Value - I think Calder painted this artwork to tell people that he does not want any war or big conflicts to happen.6: Shape - The shapes are original for me because I do not often see those kind of pictures but they match the picture. It gives nice balance in the picture.

Alexander Calder’s Padlet

Six Elements of Art -

Colour- the colour of this piece of painting is mainly red and white red in a upper and south west side of the picture and white on the rest of them.

Texture- it feels like it is sun setting as the blue moon shape goes down and the orange circle comes up and it is getting brighter. But in another way it looks like a blood spreading out to the whole place as I can see red drops from white space.

Lines- In the piece of art there are lots of lines which is circular, wavy, straight, etc. Those lines are connected forming a shape.

Shape- There are different forms of shape which are circular, wavy, half circular, S lined shape, square for the borders for red and white.

Value- In this piece of art there are not much of it as this is not an black n white coloured. White in the piece of art is kind of yellow-ish too.

Space- It is two-dimensional art. The red is coloured darker and deeply when the white/yellow is coloured light and shallow

Texture: There is more of like a watercolor effect to the work of art and not much of any stroke.Line:There are different types of lines in this work of art like the 3 straight lines and the other curved/curvy lines.
