The Smart vs 'Dumb' Students

Teachers creating a dichotomy of smart vs dumb students is the worst thing they can do for their students, so a good classroom environment would involve teachers addressing their biases and not separating students this way. They should realize that students have their own strengths and weaknesses, and try to help students work with others to strengthen their weak areas rather than competing with one another.

Comfortability with Asking Questions

Teachers should establish a classroom culture that encourages students to ask questions. This may be done by developing fluid lesson plans that allots enough time for answering questions. Having rigid lesson plans encourages teachers to filter only "good" questions so they can get through the lesson.

The optimal learning environment is one that has a foundation of mutual respect and forgiveness, which come from love. By respecting students and having them respect you, they are empowered to act less as students and children, but as autonomous humans and adults. By forgiving students and yourself, you can offer grace instead of punishment for honest mistakes, while at the same time pushing students to improve and grow through their mistakes rather than shy away from them. Forgiveness in this context wouldn't give students a free pass from learning/improving, nor would it punish for making mistakes. It would acknowledge the wrongdoing and give it grace, provided that the student recognizes the need for improvement.

Instead, students are encouraged to ask questions and learn more from one another. Also, creating an environment where students are able to collaborate but also work on their own if it's their preference. Also understanding as a teacher, that academic scores may be impacted by other outside factors like personal issues.
