We need to ensure that our families, especially those who may feel marginalized know that there are amazing resources for their children, for themselves and for their businesses if they have one. Many of us as educators may know how invaluable their services are. There are books, magazines, movies and videos in all of the major languages used in our local communities, as well as programs to help people of similar languages connect with each other. Our class goes to live puppet shows, there are preschool and infant programs for early literacy, there are coding, drawing, crafting programs for older children after school, (think latch key children), there are book clubs and games for children, help with homework, librarians who specialize in helping newcomers find whatever kind of information they need, (housing, social assistance, jobs, language learning, or to help navigate and understand how to access government services. There are librarians who can help entrepeneurs access vital information they may need, from statistics to laws and bylaws to funding. There are social programs, political debate groups, Toastmasters clubs, book clubs, movie nights, seniors socials, cafes, and for rising techies older children can access 3D printers and AI.
