         <description><![CDATA[<div>I don't think it's a "huge" issue. I do think it is an important element that is usually not thought about. Much research has shown that motivation is affected by conditions and scaffolds. I don't know many teachers in the past who think it is his/her responsibility to provide engaging homework. That is changing with the new standards.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Learning Personalized</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We know from research that students will persevere on a task if they thing, "This work has value for me."  <br>Finding value in homework is going to vary from student to student.  <br>*What if the student has a busy evening?  Would homework be valued more than dance class, karate, boyscouts or basketball practice?  It could just be adding stress.<br>*What if the students home environment is not an environment that supports homework?  Some of our most struggling students fall farther and farther behind because they do not have a supportive home for school work.<br>*What would the expectation be of teachers to assign differentiated homework?  This seems challenging...how realistic is it?<br>How persistent are we expecting children to be at home without the supports of the classroom?  We also need to be careful about assigning things that students may struggle with so that they are not practicing incorrectly.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think individualized homework is a great idea, although (as the article mentioned) it is a lot of work for the teacher to get it started, and come up with the assignments. I like how the students get to make goals and therefore have a concrete way to see their accomplishments as their goals are met.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Individualized learning </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I like the idea of the individualized learning, since it allows the students to do something that they actually enjoy as homework, rather than the usual tasks associated with the class (for example, you would have math homework pertained to the class they had that day). It also allows the teacher to give real feedback to students, even though it will take more time to do. <br><br></div>]]></description>

In order for students  to grow in their learning, they need to struggle and "get messy", but if the struggle is too difficult they will give up.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Seeing the value in homework is important, but so is not being afraid to fail at it. Grading homework adds another level of stress. If  a student&#39;s grade depends on how well he/she performs on homework (which should be practice) then he/she may be demotivated and unduly stressed over it. </title>
