y reuniendo a sus tropas en Rosario, a orillas del Río Paraná y sus oficiales y soldados que le juraron fidelidad.
Fue el primer día que se izó una bandera argentina, según quedó documentado en la historia, por más que no se celebre todos los años en esa fecha el Día de la Bandera.

Si bien los festejos comenzaron antes, recién en el año 1986 la fiesta pasó a llamarse nacional y desde entonces se festeja durante tres días, desde el 20 hasta el 22 de junio de cada año.
El día 21 de junio es cuando el calendario marca la noche más larga del año y se produce el solsticio de invierno en el hemisferio Sur; por ende, también ese día es el más corto del año, por lo que solo «habrá sol» desde las 10 hasta las 17 horas.
