President Lincoln signed this act, which allowed white Americans to buy land in the West for extremely cheap prices. This was in order to develop the American territory, and was at the cost of the Native Americans' lifestyles. The Native Americans were forced out of their native lands, in order to make way for the whites, and relocated to different areas.

Some violent white Americans shot up a bunch of Sioux Indians to ensure that there would be no conflict between the whites and those Native Americans. About 400 Sioux thought they were promised immunity, but all of the men, women, and children, were killed in a cruel manner. This is another example of the cruel treatment of Native Americans and broken promises.

This was the first treaty made between the Americans and the Native Americans. The treaty clearly marked the boundaries of the Lakotah and distinguished them as a sovereign nation. However, this treaty was broken, and the Lakotah's land was lost. Their land that would've taken up a large portion of North America was taken by whites, and they were forced to move into tiny reservations.

The Americans cut through the Lakotah nation, disregarding the Fort Laramie Treaties, in order to shorten the length of the railroad. They cleared the land, and appropriated it so that they could build a railroad on it. Three tribes, led by the Lakotah chief Red Cloud fought against the American army and won three times. The railroad brought in hunters that took away the Native Americans main source of food and shelter, buffalo.

In response to the discovery of gold in the Black Hills, inside Lakotah territory, whites were moving into their territory and pushing the American government to end their treaty with the Lakotah as soon as possible. This caused a war to start, since the Native Americans were signed a good treaty that promised that they could keep their land, and they wanted to fight for it. Custer's cavalry was crushed by Native American forces.

The Indian reservation land was divided up and given to individual Native Americans. However, this was just a clever way of taking away land from the Native Americans to allow more room for the whites to spread. All of the "surplus" land was given to white ranchers. This bluntly showed that the American government had no care for the Native Americans.

300 Native Americans were massacred by whites that surrounded the tribe and used a Hotchkiss gun, a rapid fire gun that shot exploding shells. 20 medals of honor for valor were given for this massacre, which was more medals that were given out from any other war, including the world wars, Korean war, and Vietnam war. This marked the end of the Indian wars, and showed the American stance on Native American rights.

The forced conversion of Native Americans to Christianity occurred throughout American history, but this specific example is from around 1880s, more specifically close to 1884. Humanitarians and Christian reformers went to the Native Americans and attempted to convert them in order to "walk the white man's road." The reformers would even go as far as keeping food from the Native Americans to force them to give up their native religion and assimilate in to the white American lifestyle. It was clear that they did not respect the Native Americans' lifestyle.

They reduced the reservation land of the Paiute, took away the Alsesa Indian Reservation and Siletz Indian reservation and moved those Indians to another reservation, bought land from the eastern bad of cherokee Indians, and took the land from Eastern Shawneee to Modoc.
