Letter to Future Self

Students will write a letter to themselves three years in the future. The letter should contain what their current interests and hobbies are, as well as a photo of themselves. They should include 5-10 goals in the letter that they would like to achieve by the time that they read this letter in the future.

Contact List

Students should start a list of the important contacts and connections that they have or will need in the future. Examples of contacts can include their case manager, doctor, therapist, etc. Students should continue to add to this list and refer back to it when necessary.

Self-Discovery Questions

Students should answer the attached questions about themselves that are related to social, emotional, career, and personal aspects of their lives. This is intended to help students better understand who they are.

Learning Styles Test

This test will help students as they transition into high school so that they can understand how they best process information, allowing them to use that to their advantage when it comes to studying, homework, etc.

Attend IEP Meeting

It is important that students begin to understand what their IEP is, how it helps them, and how they can self-advocate. Students should complete the "Student Run IEP Template" to the best of their ability, which will allow them to be an active participant in the meeting.

Career Quiz

Students should take the online career quiz, answering questions about their skills and preferences to see what careers are best suited for them.

Letter to Younger Self

Students will be able to read the letter that they wrote to themselves in 7th grade and write a letter back, reflecting on if their interests and hobbies have changed and if they met the goals that they listed in the letter or if they are still working towards them.

Career Research Chart

Students should research 3-5 careers that they are interested in and fill out the research chart including the job name, education requirement, skills needed, and salary for each.

Self-Commercial

Students will create a commercial about themselves that they could present to a future employer, advertising their best qualities and why they would be a good candidate for the job. The video should be about 2 minutes long.

Shadow

Students and their team should set up a day that they can shadow someone that is doing what they plan to do post-secondary. For example, students could shadow a student at a college that they are interested in, a Police Officer, a Walmart employee, etc.

Resume

Students should create a resume that highlights their skills and accomplishments up to this point. They should continue to add to their resume as they gain more experience.

Apply

Students should begin to apply for what they plan to do post-secondary. This could include workforce applications, a military application, a college application, etc.
