In the book Bethany is compared a lot to her dead sister Elizabeth. Whenever people saw Bethany she was compared to her sister. Of course she looked a lot like her sister because when her sister died her father kept some of her cells. Bethany became Elizabeth's clone because her parents were so sad about her sister's death.

Double Identity is told in first person by Bethany throughout the whole book. It is mostly told in order except she has a lot of flashbacks from when she was younger. Her flashbacks usually include how protective her parents were of her and how she got everything she wanted.

Unusual

A man named Dalton Van Dyne was in prison for a while. He payed Bethany's father, Walter, to create a clone of him. But Walter's lab was going to be shut down so he decided to create Elizabeth's clone first. Dalton Van Dyne had payed Walter but never had his clone created. He didn't know that and when the money was sent back to Van Dyne in prison he was confused. When he got out he was trying to find his clone, but he didn't know Walter never created him. What was unusual was that Dalton Van Dyne was also after Bethany while she was living with her aunt for some reason. What was also unusual was that Bethany's parents never told her about her sister and about her being a clone. This just made it difficult for Bethany when she was growing up because she never knew why her mother was always depressed and crying.

Theme Examples

A theme could be that it is easier to tell the truth than to hide it from people. Bethany was dropped off in Sanderfield with her aunt and cousin she never knew she had and she was very confused. Her parents didn't even tell her where she was going, why they were leaving, and when or if they would be back. Bethany never knew why her parents were always so depressed. If her parents had told her about her dead sister, then she wouldn't have had to worry so much about her parents and why they left her with strangers. Also, if she would have known that she was a clone and why Dalton Van Dyne was after her then she wouldn't have had to worry that this man was going to hurt her.
