It was when the Germanic tribes first struck back as a planned powerful group, warning Romans from that area. This does not include all Germanic people, just the people opposite the Romans over the Rhine river. For many year Christians had to exercise their religion secretly or in private. Or they would be punished. They would be punished because the Romans believed that the gods had chosen their emperor for them and not following the gods was disrespect to their emperor.
