They then realized that The City of Ember was underground. They had to send a message to the people in Ember so that they could also escape. There was a hole that lead straight down to Ember and Doon and Lina wrapped their message in a ribbon and threw it down the whole hoping someone would see it and spread their knowledge to everyone else and save the Ember citizens.
