The Aztecs help prove the theory in the text. There were three classes- the nobles, the commoners, and the surfs/slaves. The noble class consists of government, military leaders, priests and lords. They were wealthy. The commoners consists of farmers and merchants that would travel to trade. The surfs/slaves worked on the land owned by the nobles. If the surfs failed to pay tribute, they would become a slave.

Sports teams relate to the theory that the text is attempting to prove. You basically have mulitple classes in sports such as football, in which 1st string could be as the higher class for they start almost every game. The 2nd string is middle class, for they play certain games in which the 1st string doesn't play. And last the 3rd string and below are like the low class for they rarely start in a game.

Roman- The lower classes for the Romans were plebians, slaves, foreigners, Latins. They are not granted full citizenship or full rights. The upper class were the equestrian class. That was a class based on economics and a man could be formally enrolled in this class by proving he possessed a stable amount of wealth. On the other hand another upper class known as the senatorial class was based on politics. This class was dominated by nobles. Women fell between the lines of lower and upper classes because their class was determined by whatever class their father was in. There was not really a middle class. Just the two extremes. Their dress determined their class.
18th/19th Century Europe-The 18th century social hierarchy consisted of the Gentry, the upper class. this class consisted of only 3% of all people. They were granted a place of power. next is the middle class also known as the "working class" this consisted of lawyers, doctors, and lower ranking military officers. they had the ability to convert their wealth in to power because of the idea of the Enlightenment. the lower class consisted of peasants often craftsmen, traders, and farmers. it was practically impossible to move up the social class because they aren't born in to wealth.
the 19th century social hierarchy was different from the early 18th century. it consisted of the poor who weren't involved in any work. the working class which was considered the upper lower class in the hierarchy miners, sweepers, factory workers, etc. the lower middle class they were a step lower to the upper middle class it included merchants, shopkeepers,etc. the upper middle class had high authority and high social status, it included engineers, bankers, doctors, etc. finally the aristocrats which has the highest power. it consisted of the royal family, knights, temoral lords, and spiritual lords.

The Mongols do go by this system that is said at the beginning of the book. For example, within the Mongol empire, the low are the slaves, the middle is are the herders and artisans, while the high are the nobility and leaders. For the entertainment industry, there is a class system as well. The Higher end companies get the bigger named actors, the newer talent and they have influence on what goes in the real world.
