There are parallels between Nora and the tree. The tree is "prevented from full growth, cut or transplanted, then prettified and decorated in a domestic environment, like Nora herself". (Pg 15) This highlights Nora's struggle to hide/repress her true self when she is with Torvald, and represents her inability to do as she wishes (ie eating macaroons). 

- The tarantula dance which gets more intense over time seems to suggest that Nora’s desire to live life on her own and break free from the life of stereotypes and expectation of what a married woman should be starts to grow. 
( start of dance—> linked to Nora’s decision to save money 
as the dance progresses, so does Nora and her independent behaviour ( earn money, forge signature etc.)

- the dance shows the audience a side of nora that she seems to be hiding and audiences have to make their own deduction on the symbolism of this dance.
