I have lived in Los Feliz for twelve years. I was born and raised in East Los Angeles until 1989. With over 39 years of experience as a professional musician and educator, I teach music ensembles, guitar, bass, music production, and songwriting at New Roads School in Santa Monica. This K-12 program is committed to social justice and diversity, and 40% of students receive scholarships. Our teaching staff is about 50% people of color and wholly committed to DEI. The year before last, I resumed work as a music drumming therapy facilitator at a women’s treatment center in Pasadena. I will now be doing my internship there and looking forward to the project!

Throughout my career, I have remained passionate about learning across various subjects, including astronomy, psychology, and sociology. My interest in pathology deepened during my time as a music recreation facilitator at a psychiatric hospital, where I taught coping skills and psycho-education methods like CBT and DBT. Inspired by neuroscience and cognitive science research, I developed a music-based intervention to enhance patients' coping strategies.

My long-term goal is to pursue a Ph.D. in psychology, but I will obtain a Master's in Education at UCLA before that. I will focus on both individual and systemic strategies for societal change. I envision delivering a TED Talk on fostering the "overview" effect—shifting internal narratives to support human and ecological survival—without needing to leave Earth. I aim to continue contributing to global change through the work I look forward to creating.

I've come to realize your thoughts, and when they evolve into words, actions, and habits, are the template to become the person you desire. I believe humanity can change its character and improve our behavior to maintain our survival as a species, and as an advocate to improve the planet. I have a concept for a book that will hopefully impact enough people into changing their core beliefs. I've been working on the research aspect and I still have much more to do. Finishing my degree and beyond will be a part of my plan.

My late brother Claudio passed away on December 1st, 2023. He inspired me to pursue knowledge and obtain an education. He was a history professor at East L.A. College for 40 years. As an honors student, he received a BA from Occidental College and a Master's from Cal Berkeley. I miss him dearly.
