This class/seminar/workshop will be focused on helping the attendee to learn how to become more effective as a teacher/instructor/trainer. There are many people out there who fell into teaching (luck or consequence), or must teach (because they grew into academia), or want to teach (self-chosen path). In all scenarios, we need to become more effective at what we do. I envision you possibly teaching the DiSC to help the attendee to baseline themselves and understand themselves more so that they learn how they communicate naturally today. Or do the MBTI to share how they act in class. Lots of things can be done to make the teacher/instructor attendee more self-aware about themselves that can help them to learn how to fix the problem areas. Maybe something could also be discussed in the area of attitudes (the arrogant/cocky professor who knows it all, for example); what makes a great teacher and what makes a terrible teacher. This is a professional development class for teachers or potential teachers.

David Lum/Carol Wong: Breaking up and Making Up: A Personal Guide for Asian Kids With Their Asian Parents

Growing up in an Asian family is tough. Growing up in an Asian family in America is even tougher. Some of us grew up with a Tiger Mom/Dad; others with a pussycat Mom/Dad. In the end, all of us share a common experience of having to wonder “Why did my parents treat me this way?” and “When will my parents show me they love me?” Many of us also wonder if and how we can come to terms with our relationship with our parents. Some of us may also wonder if we will pass on what we’ve been taught to our kids. In this highly personal seminar, we will explore our confusing, and sometimes turbulent, relationship with our immigrant/overseas parents to see how we can bridge the generational, cultural, and communications gap that divide us and our parents. We will also explore ways to learn how to reconcile our relationship with our parents and re-connect with them. We will also learn how to make peace with our past so that our future with our children will be different. This seminar is targeted for all Asians and Asian-Americans who live in the US who desire closure or a closer relationship with their parents. If you are not able to re-connect with your parents, this seminar is also good for you to understand the lasting impact that they have on you so that you can be self-aware of what you may pass onto your kids. If you are an Asian parent, this seminar is also good for you to understand your kids from a uniquely Asian-American perspective.

Adults and kids have different perspectives of the world. And with these different perspectives come different ways of solving problems. Some times...it takes a kid to see a simple solution to a complex problem. Einstein once said that he was able to come up with his ground-breaking theories discoveries by thinking problems from a kid's perspective. The Disney/Pixar artists use toys, games, playthings, and cartoons to help story and animation development and production. Strategy and brainstorming sessions for business leaders and professionals involve creative thinking and working together to solve challenges...something children are very good and not afraid of doing.

As a SPIN workshop/program...this presentation should incorporate activities for parents and children to work and play together to see the importance of both adult's and children's perspectives.
