Favorite Math (Review) Activity

This activity I use as a group race - all groups compete to be done with all the review sheets by the end of the period. I cut the worksheet up and only give the students one slip at a time, with one for each group member. The group all has to complete it correctly and be able to explain their work in order to get the next slip. I normally gave 2 points of extra credit to the group that finished first, and 1 point to the groups that finished all the sheets by the end of the class period.

Favorite (Recent) Lesson

This year, we are using Eureka Math for our curriculum. While I do not like the curriculum for our school overall and we are changing it soon, there are a few lessons that are great! Lessons 17-20 all dealt with transformations of functions and allowed the students to explore. This is a good alternative to using desmos if your students cannot handle using their computers/chromebooks in class. I found it also beneficial since I have many students who still struggle with substitution of values and graphing points.

I noticed after the first month of classes, my students had no idea how to send a respectful or appropriate email to a teacher. On an early out day, we talked as a class on how to write an email. I had them practice the skill by sending me an email about a topic they cared about.
